Dear members of the UMBC community,
Please join us as we celebrate the career of Dr. Diane Lee, Vice Provost and founding Dean of Undergraduate Education, and wish her the best in her retirement. The celebration event will take place on Monday, February 20 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the 7th floor of the Albin O. Kuhn Library. Refreshments will be provided.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP using our online registration form, or contact Diana Smith, dlsmith@umbc.edu.
For the past 30 years, Dr. Lee has served the UMBC community with enthusiasm, integrity, compassion, and vision. She has made a profound difference to the lives of past and current students, staff, and faculty, and her extraordinary legacy will mark the lives of members of our community for years to come. She has been a mentor, advisor, supporter, friend, colleague, thinker, advocate, administrator, teacher, and builder—playing all of these roles with unique grace, kindness, and wisdom.
During her time at UMBC she was honored as a Presidential Teaching Professor; served as a Vice Provost and then as the founding Dean of Undergraduate Education; and oversaw or established signature UMBC initiatives such as the First Year and Transfer Seminars, Supplemental Instruction, and Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD). These accomplishments, and many others, are grounded on Dr. Lee’s passion for supporting all students in reaching their academic and professional goals, and on her remarkable ability to inspire all around her through her work, generosity, and collaborative spirit.
We hope you will join us in expressing our deep gratitude for all Dr. Lee has done for the UMBC community, and in wishing her well in her future endeavors.
Provost Philip Rous and Interim Dean Simon Stacey
