Long-Term Disability (LTD) and Group Term Life carrier UNUM is doing a special enrollment fromFeb. 1 - March 1, 2017 to allow employees to add new coverage or make changes to their LTD or Life Insurance coverage.
In the coming days you should receive an email or letter from UNUM with information regarding special enrollment. To assist you, here are some important details to consider:
- Special enrollment emails will be addressed from University System of Maryland - UNUM.
- UNUM LTD and Life benefits are provided by USM not the State of Maryland.
- The UNUM special enrollment period is strictly for UNUM benefits and not for health, dental, prescription, Minnesota Life, AD&D or Flexible Spending.
- UNUM special enrollment allows employees to elect LTD and Life Insurance (up to $100,000) through UNUM with no medical underwriting (no medical questions will be asked).
- The rates have decreased for both UNUM Life and LTD plans.
- New UNUM coverage will be effective April 1, 2017.
- If you currently have UNUM and do not wish to make any changes, no action is necessary.
