<Title>Special Announcement regarding Coach Ryan Odom</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>Dear Members of the UMBC Community,</span><br><br><span>We are excited to announce that UMBC leaders and Coach Ryan Odom have agreed in principle to contract amendments that will retain Coach Odom as the head of the UMBC men’s basketball team. We are pleased that he will continue to build on this season’s remarkable success. </span><br><br><span>UMBC made history under Coach Odom’s guidance as </span><a href="https://t.e2ma.net/click/z54rmb/nwtbnbb/jlqiok" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">the first No. 16 seed to defeat a No. 1 seed</a><span>, with a decisive victory over Virginia on March 17th in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. The week before, the Retrievers captured the America East Tournament title and secured a bid to the NCAA tournament for just the second time in school history.  </span><br><br><span>The Retrievers finished this season with a school record 25 wins (25-11), and in two years </span><span>under Odom, have won seven postseason contests and compiled an overall record of 46-24. </span><br><br><span>"We are very proud of Coach Odom and our basketball team. Coach Odom is an amazing educator and fine human being,” said President Freeman Hrabowski. “He appreciates the important relationship between our athletic and academic programs."</span><br><br><span>“I am so proud of our staff and players, and it’s been a remarkable journey that we set out on together,” Head Coach Ryan Odom said. “I am grateful to Dr. Hrabowski and Tim Hall for their confidence in our staff to continue to lead these young men during their time at UMBC. <Title>Sherman Center announces 2017-18 research fellows</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>The Sherman Center for Early Learning in Urban Communities is pleased to announce its 2017-18 research fellows, principal investigator, Dr. Kindel Nash, Associate Professor of Education, and co-investigator, Joshua Michael, doctoral student, School of Public Policy.</p><p>Dr. Nash and Mr. Michael, in collaboration with families, preservice teachers, and staff (teachers, administrators, family liaisons) at Maree G. Farring Elementary/Middle School, will investigate the effects of a literacy intervention – Read Two Impress. The multi-year study will examine the intervention’s effects on struggling third grade readers when used by preservice teachers and students’ families. It will also explore the effects of implementing the intervention on preservice teachers’ and families’ sense of efficacy in supporting young students’ literacy development.</p><p>The Sherman Center award will allow Dr. Nash and Mr. Michael to expand knowledge about a research-based literacy practice while strengthening UMBC’s relationship with the Maree G. Farring Elementary/Middle School community. Please join us in celebrating the accomplishments of this year's campus- and system-wide award recipients. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with lunch provided. The program will begin at 12 p.m.</span></div><br><span>During the ceremony we will honor our faculty and staff colleagues, each of whom was selected by a committee of peers.     <div class="html-content"><div><strong>Men's Basketball NCAA Tournament Send-off!</strong></div><div><br></div><div>Join us in cheering our Men's Basketball team on as they leave for the NCAA tournament at 3:30 p.m. today in front of the RAC and Administration Building. <Title>The Chronicle &#8220;Great Colleges to Work For" Survey</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>Dear Members of the UMBC Community,</span><br><br><span>Each year, </span><em>The Chronicle of Higher Education</em><span> asks faculty and staff at colleges and universities across the country to rate their workplaces on a host of factors, including benefits, workplace policies, and demographics, to recognize institutions that have built great workplaces.</span><br><br><em>The Chronicle</em><span> has again asked UMBC to participate in its “Great Colleges to Work For” program. An important part of this program is an employee survey distributed to a random sample of UMBC’s full-time faculty and exempt and non-exempt staff. In the coming week, an invitation to take this survey will be emailed to a random sample of UMBC faculty and staff. If you receive the anonymous survey we ask that you take a few minutes to respond. Your feedback helps ensure more accurate results for the program. </span><strong>The deadline to complete the survey is <span><span>April 6, 2018</span></span></strong><span>.</span><br><br><em>The Chronicle</em><span> will publish a special issue this summer detailing the program findings and recognizing those institutions that are leading the way in their commitment to creating great workplaces.</span><br><br><span>In 2017, for the eighth consecutive year, UMBC was named one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, and earned its sixth consecutive spot on the list’s “Honor Roll.” The campus received high ratings in key areas such as teaching, senior leadership, and shared governance.</span><br><br><span>Thank you in advance for your participation.</span><br><br><em><span>Valerie A. The team is just one game away from winning the Conference title and earning a spot to compete against 67 other teams in NCAA March Madness!</span><br><br><span>The second-seed Retrievers will face the first-seed Catamounts at the </span><a href="https://t.e2ma.net/click/fa3pcb/nwtbnbb/rfrlhk" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">University of Vermont Roy L. Patrick Gymnasium</a><span> on Saturday, March 10.
