<Title>Summer Internship Opportunities</Title>

    <div><p><span>The <strong>Maternal and Child Health Careers/Research Initiatives for Student Enhancement (MCHC/RISE-UP) Program</strong> provides opportunities for enhanced public health and related training to undergraduate students from underrepresented populations to encourage and support the pursuit of graduate degrees. MCHC/RISE-UP grant funding was awarded to Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The program is built on a model developed at Kennedy Krieger using a previous CDC RISE grant.</span></p><br><p><span>The program is designed for undergraduates in their junior and senior year,
     and recent baccalaureate degree students in psychology, social work, biology, nursing, public health, sociology, and other related disciplines who are interested in learning more about the prevention of health disparities.  Through this program, university partners from across the nation will offer learning opportunities for these students, both at a local and national level. This program's ultimate goal is to promote a more diversified and equal health system by introducing highly qualified undergraduate students from underrepresented groups to the field of public health.</span></p><br><p><span>The MCHC/RISE-UP Program is a 10-week summer program that begins May 29, 
    2012 and ends August 3, 2012. The program kicks off with a two-week orientation at KKI and CDC, focused on public health training, as well as career and health equity.</span></p><br><p><span>There are three MCHC/RISE-UP sites:</span><br></p><p>1. Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland<br></p><p>2. University of South Dakota/Sanford School of Medicine Center for Disabilities in Sioux Falls, South Dakota<br></p><span>3. </span><span>University of Southern California University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities/California State University, Los Angeles in California<br><br></span><p><span>Three public health experiences are offered at each MCHC/RISE-UP site. Students can choose up to two (2) experiences at one (1) location. The public health experiences offered to students are clinical/community; leadership and policy; and research. </span></p><br><p><span>A stipend is provided to all program participants.     Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and other summer research 
    opportunities programs (SROP).</p>

    <p>One unique feature of the Nebraska Summer Research Program is the 
    partnership between the REU and SROP programs and the Office of Graduate
     Studies. Students benefit in having a community of scholars in which to
     learn and to share research with. </p>
    
    <p>This intensive summer research experience provides mentoring and 
    research experiences while allowing scholars to preview graduate school 
    life. Students with a strong interest in graduate programs are 
    particularly encouraged to apply, as are those from populations 
    traditionally underrepresented in graduate education.</p><br></div>

<Title>Summer Research Opportunity in Biomedical Research!</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span><strong>T</strong></span>he University of Virginia School of
    Medicine offers summer research internship opportunities to qualified college undergraduates considering a career in biomedical research. The program targets, but is not limited to, racially and ethnically diverse students in their junior and senior years. Interns receive $4,500 toward summer expenses. In addition, housing and travel to and from Charlottesville are provided.<br>

    The program’s goals are to expose undergraduates to laboratory research and to familiarize them with the opportunities that exist for careers in biomedical
    research.  Presentations and panel talks from our graduate students, along with free GRE tutorials, help SRIP interns successfully navigate the graduate school application process.</div>

    from throughout the country the opportunity to conduct research projects
     in:</h2>
    <ul><li><a href="http://www.cse.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Computer Science </a></li><li><a href="http://www.cse.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Computer Engineering </a></li><li><a href="http://engineering.unt.edu/electrical/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Electrical Engineering</a> </li><li><a href="http://www.etec.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Engineering Technology</a></li><li><a href="http://www.mtse.unt.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Materials Science and Engineering</a></li></ul>
    <p>The program lasts for eight weeks during the summer. The dates for 2012 are June 2nd (check-in) to July 28th (check out).</p>
    <h3>Research Opportunities</h3>
    <p>All research projects pertaining to SUPER will be based in <a href="http://engineering.unt.edu/about/about-discovery-park" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Discovery Park</a>, just four miles north of the main campus.</p>
    <p>SUPER students will have office space in <a href="http://engineering.unt.edu/about/about-discovery-park" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Discovery Park</a>
     and access to all research facilities. They will be assigned a faculty 
    mentor and can choose to perform research under one of our research 
    areas or propose a research project of their own (check our website for 
    other exciting research projects):</p>
    <ul><li>Bioinformatics</li><li>Characterization and testing of piezoelectric materials and devices</li><li>Computer architecture, memory systems, and parallel processing</li><li>Development and testing of advanced polymer based materials and composites</li><li>Embedded Computing</li><li>Low Power VLSI Design</li><li>Microwave and Antennas</li></ul>
    <h3>Eligibility</h3>
    <p>Our program is oriented towards students who have completed at least two years of study in:</p>

    <ul><li><strong><span>Each STAR participant must be a US Citizen or Permanent
         Resident</span></strong><span> who has completed one college
         level mathematics <u>and</u> one college level science series (Freshman

         also have 2 or 3 quarters, mentored experience in a
         biomedical/biobehavioral laboratory. </span></li></ul>

    <div class="html-content">Montclair State University and the National Science Foundation sponsor an<br>
    8-week Summer Research Experience for Undergraduate program (REU) at the NJ School of Conservation.  The objective is to cultivate highly motivated<br>undergraduate students in transdiciplinary environmental research.  Ten<br>undergraduate students will be selected to participate in this hands-on,<br>field-oriented research program centered on forest lakes in Northwest New<br>Jersey.   Participants will be housed in cabins located within 30,000 acres<br> of mature forest, mountain ridges and freshwater streams and lakes. Working<br> with faculty mentors, participants will gain scientific
    research experience<br> by focusing on and rotating among research areas including Hydrology,<br> Erosion and Sedimentation, Environmental Chemistry, and<br> Biodiversity/Ecology.</div>
