Meet Michael,

He is a Physics major and current URA Scholar who does research in quantum mechanics. He also helps run SPS (Society of Physics Students), plays music on campus with the UMBC Pep Band and is involved in theatre productions.

If so, Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD) is the perfect opportunity for you. This year, the 20th Annual URCAD will take place on Wednesday April 27 and all students must submit an online application to participate.

If you have NOT submitted your URCAD online application including your faculty mentor's recommendation, please do so before TUESDAY FEBRUARY 23.

UMBC's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is offering a 10-week summer research program in chemical sensing and imaging on campus!

**Students will receive a stipend $5,000 for the ten-week period as well as on-campus housing. 

Students will: 
  • Be able to attend professional training workshops
  • Obtain research experience in leading UMBC laboratories

Application Deadline: February 26, 2016

Eligibility: 
  • Students must be US Citizens or permanent residents
  • Demonstrate strong interest in chemistry and related science and engineering fields
  • Must have completed at least freshman chemistry, organic chemistry lecture, and laboratory courses

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is funding Kansas State University for their 10-week summer research program in chemical engineering. 

**Students will receive a stipend $5,000 for the ten-week period as well as $2,500 for food and housing.

**Students will also receive travel expenses if needed to attend conferences when presenting their research

Students will: 
  • Receive faculty mentors from the fields of chemical engineering, electrical engineering, geology, and chemistry
  • Attend weekly research seminars and give reports on their projects
  • Present their findings on the last day at a final poster session
  • Attend a sustainability seminar on sustainable energy, its production and impact
  • Participate in a group outreach project related to sustainability
  • Have field trips and social activities relevant to sustainable energy


Program Date: May 31- August 5, 2016

The CenUSA Bioenergy Research Internship Experience for Undergraduates provides interdisciplinary training for students in bioenergy fields. 13 students are chosen to participate in one of the following areas:
  • Feedstock Development
  • Field-Level Sustainability
  • Logistics
  • Policy-Level Sustainability
  • Feedstock Conversion Economics
  • Markets and Distribution
  • Health and Safety
  • Commercialization
Undergraduates will gain vital skills in computer modeling, field methods, and/or experimental design by doing independent projects. 

Students will receive a stipend of $450/week for the 10 week program ($4,500), as well as having housing provided on-campus and a travel allowance.

The program runs from June 1 - August 6 and the deadline for the program is March 1.

Undergraduates interested in Computer Science are encouraged to apply to this NSF funded REU. Students must have a solid mathematical background and be proficient in C++. Students selected for the program will be contributing to the department's research and will gain an understanding of what it's like to have a career in research. This research program for undergraduate students will run from June 6 to August 12, and 10 students will be selected.

Priority deadline: February 15
Common deadline: March 15
Students receive a stipend of $5,000 and notifications will begin May 1.

Collaborative Data Visualization REU! Students interested in visualization check this REU out! The Purdue Polytechnic Institute Computer Graphics Technology Department invites students from all majors with an interest in visualization to apply to this REU. The program is looking for students with interests in visualization from technical and non-technical backgrounds. Students will be assigned to an REU consisting of a research collaborator, visualization mentor, and an REU student. The program offers hands-on interdisciplinary research in visualization while also gaining skills in networking, writing, and presentations.

"Research areas of this site include (but is not limited to): 
Computer science, genetics and biochemistry, geophysics, sociology, molecular modeling and simulation, inorganic chemistry, social media, parks recreation tourism management, biological sciences, athletics and digital humanities, to name a few."

Students would receive a round trip travel allowance, lodging in the campus dorms (Purdue University), and a stipend of $4,000. 

Students should have their online application and all of the necessary documents sent by March 30, 2016.
