<Title>Graduate Engineering Open House!</Title>

    <p>This fall, the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University will be hosting our <strong><a href="http://geoh.engineering.osu.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Graduate Engineering Open House</a></strong> aimed at bringing underrepresented groups to our Columbus, Ohio campus and showing them the opportunities in engineering research and scholarship.  We would LOVE if you would pass along the attached email invitation to any of your undergraduates who might be interested.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>The event will take place <span><span>October 13-14, 2017</span></span>.  We have <strong>TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS</strong> we can award to students to help them cover their expenses for flights, mileage, and/or hotel stay.  This is a GREAT opportunity for your students to come and check out a highly ranked, Research 1 institution and learn all about the graduate school process!!</p>

    <span><div><span><br></span></div>Nationally competitive scholarships help support students to study within the U.S and abroad, by providing funding for graduate school and research opportunities. These scholarships are recognized as some of the most prestigious in the world, and their purpose is to develop outstanding students into leaders whose research and careers will have far-reaching impacts on the world.</span><div><span><br></span></div>

    <p>UMBC provides direct support to students seeking to apply for nationally competitive scholarships. If you are interested in applying for one of these opportunities, you are required to upload a dossier which includes your current transcripts, resume, personal statement (if you have one already written), a short statement about your future academic and career plans, and a short statement about why you want to pursue this scholarship. Once this is received, you will be contacted to set up an in-person appointment to meet with Dr. April Householder. Before beginning this process, please review the eligibility guidelines for the scholarship(s) you are interested in.     <div>To sign up for online placement testing, fill out this form and watch your email for instructions.   You can also come to the Learning Resources Center office in Sherman Hall, B-Wing, Room 345 to get instructions.  </div>

    <p>The University of Florida’s Graduate School cordially invites prospective graduate students to apply for our<strong> Fall 2017 Campus Visitation Program (CVP)</strong> which will be held <strong><span><span><span><span>November 2-3, 2017</span></span></span></span></strong>.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>During their trip to the campus, successful underrepresented minority applicants will have the opportunity to:</p>
    <ul>
    <li>Meet with faculty and staff from their prospective academic programs</li>
    <li>Receive information on admissions, financial aid, and housing</li>
    <li>Interact with current UF graduate students and student organizations</li>
    </ul>
    <p> </p>
    <p>The University of Florida will provide lodging for two nights, most meals, and up to $500 in airfare or mileage. We will also reimburse the UF Graduate School Application fee, if accepted into the Campus Visitation Program.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>To be eligible to participate in the Campus Visitation Program, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:</p>
    <ul>
    <li><strong><u>Have applied to Graduate School at UF</u></strong></li>
    <li>Have a preferred minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in course work completed at a regionally accredited college or university</li>
    </ul>
    <p><strong>AND</strong></p>
    <ul><li>Have a U.S. Citizenship or hold permanent residency status</li></ul>
    <p><strong>AND</strong></p>
    <ul><li>Be either (1) an racial/ethnic minority, or (2) a first-generation college student</li></ul>
    <p> </p>

    <p><span>Johns Hopkins University is pleased to host the <a href="http://ehop.jhu.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong><span>Explore Hopkins Program (EHOP)</span></strong></a>, <strong>Thursday,</strong> <strong>October 12 through Saturday, October 14</strong></span><strong><span>, </span></strong><strong><span>2017</span></strong><span>, </span><span>on<span> its Homewood Campus, in Baltimore, MD.<br><br>EHOP is a joint effort between the university¹s <strong>Krieger School of Arts and Sciences</strong> and <strong>Whiting School of Engineering</strong>. Our goal is to host a small group of students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in pursuing doctoral studies at Johns Hopkins. Join us and attend graduate admissions workshops, network with world-class faculty, gain insight from graduate students, and discover all that Johns Hopkins and the larger Baltimore community has to offer. Lodging and meal costs will be covered for all EHOP participants. Reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed.</span></span></p>
    <p><span>Eligibility requirements are as follows:</span></p>
    <ul>
    <li>
    <span>Strong academic background with a minimum undergraduate </span><span><br></span><span>GPA of 3.5</span>
    </li>
    <li><span>Applications are particularly encouraged from Black/African Americans, Latino/Chicano Americans, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders.</span></li>
    <li><span>Preference will be given to juniors and seniors from the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area, and Mid-Atlantic states.</span></li>

    <div><span>The Library Services Specialist will provide reference services to the UMBC community and support for library instruction and outreach.</span></div>

    <div><span><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></span></div>
    <div><span><div>The successful candidate will join a team of six faculty librarians and one support staff to provide research assistance to a diverse community of UMBC students, faculty, staff and community members. In addition to working on a library service desk providing research support, this position supports the Library’s instruction, orientation, and outreach efforts, particularly to the campus First Year Experience programs. This includes supporting and facilitating general orientations and instruction to first year students, assisting with library workshops, and initiating, planning, and conducting a variety of programs and activities to promote use of the library and its services.</div>

    <div><strong>Required Minimum Qualifications:</strong></div>
    <div>
    <p>Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.</p>
    <p>Note: additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.</p>
    <p><span><strong>Preferred Experience:</strong><br></span><span>-Strong interest in outreach and support of university students<br></span><span>-Interest and/or experience working with diverse population
    of students<br></span><span>-Strong interest and/or experience in teaching or providing

<Title>AOK Library closing early Friday, August 11</Title>

    <div>Facilities Management has engaged an electrical contractor to 
    repair the transformer that feeds the AOK Library &amp; Gallery 
    building.  To undertake the repair, all power to the building will be 
    shut off.</div>
    <div>
    <br>Because the power is going off at <span><span>5:00 pm</span></span> on Friday, August  11th, we are closing the library at <span><span>4:00 pm</span></span>.  All staff and patrons should be out of the building by <span><span>4:00 pm</span></span> on Friday the 11th.<br><br>
    </div>
    <div>The RLC will also close at 4:00 pm due to lack of power.  We anticipate that the RLC will be available again at <span><span>8am</span></span> <span><span>on Saturday the 12th.</span></span>
