<Title>Building Emergency Action Team (BEAT)</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>All,</span><div><br></div><div>As part of the Facilities Emergency Action Plan, we need to designate a building emergency action team. This would be activated during a fire, weather emergency, hazardous chemical spill, active shooter or medical emergency.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>For each floor</strong> we will need a team leader, stair monitor and Floor monitor. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>In addition</strong> we will be looking for both several assembly monitors and assistance monitors. </div><div><br></div><div>Below are both the definitions and obligations of the individual positions and the information I need to populate the team. You can volunteer yourself or assign a member of your laboratory / floor to any position </div><div><br></div><div><p><span>The BEAT consists of volunteers from a facility’s occupant units.  They receive training and resources to help oversee immediate occupant safety during emergency conditions prior to the arrival of first responders.  </span><span>  Team positions include:</span></p><ol><li><span>Designated Official (DO)</span><span>.* </span><span>This is the senior University official from the primary occupant unit at this facility (this position may be delegated).  The DO is responsible for organizing the BEAT, filling team positions, and ensuring team members attend training.  The DO helps ensure the team takes immediate action in an emergency, reports occupant status to the on-scene Incident Commander and may coordinate with the UMBC Incident Management Team (IMT) when the IMT is activated. <strong>(I'll volunteer for this spot)</strong></span></li></ol><table border="1" width="0"><tbody><tr><td><p><span>*Note:</span><span>  </span><span>The DO (or designee) does NOT have Incident command.  The DO oversees immediate BEAT safety actions prior to first responder arrival and reports occupant status to the Incident Commander.  </span></p></td></tr></tbody></table><ol><li><span>Team Leaders</span><span>.  Team leaders oversee emergency actions for their facility’s DO. </span></li><li><span>Assembly Monitors</span><span>:  Assembly monitors oversee accountability at assembly points and shelter areas.  They may use rosters or other tools to take accountability of occupants.  They encourage occupants to remain at their assembly points and shelter areas and not leave prior to a relocation order or the all-clear announcement.</span></li><li><span>Stair Monitors</span><span>.  Stair monitors prevent bottlenecks in stairways during evacuations or relocations.  They keep stairway doors open and unobstructed during movement.  They use elevator lobbies to move occupants out of the way if first responders need to pass.  They create a communication chain with the stair monitors on the floor below.</span></li><li><span>Floor Monitors</span><span>.  Floor monitors move occupants on their floors to safety.  They expedite the evacuation of their floors or movement to shelter areas.</span></li><li><span>Assistance Monitors</span><span>.  Assistance monitors help occupants who need physical assistance to evacuate or relocate.  If capable, use evacuation chairs when available.</span></li></ol></div><div><br></div><div><div><p><span> <a href="https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#m_-3232162028656155142__msoanchor_1" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">[JS1]</a></span><span>Team Positions and Contact Information.  </span><span>For each team member, provide:</span></p><p><span>·<span>                     </span></span><span>  Last and first name.</span></p><p><span>·<span>                     </span></span><span>  Room number.</span></p><p><span>·<span>                     </span></span><span>  Department, College, or Office.</span></p><p><span>·<span>                     </span></span><span>  Title.</span></p><p><span>·<span>                     </span></span><span>  UMBC E-mail address.</span></p><p><span>·<span>                     </span></span><span>  Office and cell phone numbers.</span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>Please get me names and info for the various positions at your earliest convenience. <Title>Reminder! Wooden door refinishing begins this evening</Title>
<Tagline>September 13th. - 20th 6PM - 2:00 AM</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Whiting Turner will be applying additional urethane to the wooden doors in the ILSB building. This includes all offices, classroom doors, and both teaching and research lab doors.  The Urethane being used will be a water based formulation and should not be very noticeable. </div><div><br></div><div>Not as invasive as first described, the doors will remain on their hinges and will have urethane applied in place. The work will be done starting around 5 in the evening until midnight or later. This project will begin in the basement and work it's way up through the building. The contractors have a current schedule of courses and will try to take advantage of openings on Friday afternoons as best as possible for the classrooms throughout the building. . </div><div><br></div><div>I'm hoping to get a better schedule of events, but that will only happen once we get the first 9 doors finished in the basement. </div></div>

This includes all offices, classroom doors, and both teaching and research lab doors. </div><div><br></div><div>Not as invasive as first described, the doors will remain on their hinges and will have urethane applied in place. The work will be done starting around 5 in the evening until midnight or later. This project will begin in the basement and work it's way up through the building. The contractors have a current schedule of courses and will try to take advantage of openings on Friday afternoons as best as possible for the classrooms throughout the building. . </div><div><br></div><div>I'm hoping to get a better schedule of events, but that will only happen once we get the first 9 doors finished in the basement. </div><div><br></div><div>I'll keep you all posted as I hear anything new. </div></div>

Please find attached to this announcement a link to the template used by their office for the types of violations that they'll be looking for and an inspection checklist to prepare for their visit and also their laboratory inspection checklist document. </div><div><br></div><div>The office will not be contacting you prior to their visit,  once they're in the building they'll be proceeding through the labs as their time permits.
