To ensure safety and comfort, we are again coming together virtually this year to connect, shout out, and support our colleagues in a celebration of their important milestones at UMBC and The State of Maryland.

We have planned a fun, exciting, and engaging experience just as last year. We will still include the same heart-warming stories, recipient and special awardee acknowledgments, and prizes that you’ve come to expect, and NEW this year will be a fun, interactive trivia game, Kahoot, as well as some special leadership messages! UMBC is fortunate to have so many talented and dedicated Exempt and Non-Exempt staff working to support our mission. This year in particular, our staff have displayed exceptional creativity, resourcefulness, and resilience as our University community has come together to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff worked tirelessly to support our transition to the new realities of online teaching and learning, implement telework, and transform our physical campus to promote health and safety.

Each year, we encourage administrators, faculty, and staff to nominate staff members for one of these prestigious awards:

UMBC Presidential Distinguished Staff Awards
University System of Maryland Board of Regents Staff Awards
Jakubik Family Endowment Staff Award
Karen L. Wensch Endowment Award for Outstanding Non-Exempt Staff

Given the outstanding contributions of our staff during this unprecedented time, we ask that you reflect on the work within your units and across the campus and nominate a colleague. This process gives both UMBC and the University System of Maryland the opportunity to recognize exemplary work at our University. We are eager to honor our colleagues and need your help to do so.

Descriptions of the individual awards and the eligibility requirements for each, as well as the nomination form, can be found at 2020-21 Staff Awards. Each nomination should include the nomination form, a single letter of recommendation, and the nominee’s resume or job history form. Nominations should be sent by October 30 to Colleen Rebeiro in the Office of the Provost at colleenr@umbc.edu.
