We were notified by the State of Maryland that the annual 1095 Tax forms will be mailed to employees by March 2, 2019. You
do not need to wait to receive your 1095 Tax form to file your 2018 taxes.
Form 1095
FAQs from the IRS:
1. What is a 1095-C Form? A 1095 form is a little bit like a W-2 form. Your employer or insurer sends one copy to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and one copy to you. A W-2 form reports your annual earnings. A 1095 form reports your health care coverage throughout the year.
2. Who is sending it to me, when, and how? Your employer or health insurance company (Kaiser enrollees only) should provide one to you either by mail or in person. They may send the form to you electronically if you gave them permission to do so. The State of Maryland will send these out by March 2, 2019.
3. Why are you sending it to me? The 1095 forms will show that you and your family members either did or did not have health coverage during each month of the past year.
4. What am I supposed to do with this form? Keep it for your tax records. You don’t need this form in order to file your taxes, but when you do file, you’ll have to tell the IRS whether or not you had health insurance for each month of 2018.
The Form 1095-B or 1095-C shows if you had health insurance through your employer. Since you don’t actually need this form to file your taxes, you don’t have to wait to receive it if you already know what months you did or didn’t have health insurance in 2018. When you do get the form, keep it with your other 2018 tax information in case you should need it in the future to help prove you had health insurance.
SPS Workday for Benefits is now Live!
At this time, only New Hires and Employees with a qualifying event (such as marriage, birth of child, divorce, loss of coverage, etc.) or employees experiencing a change in eligibility should log into the SPS Workday system.
All other employees will have the opportunity to use the SPS Workday system during Open Enrollment this Fall 2019.
SPS Workday Tips!
- Visit the SPS Workday page for instructions on how to access the system, enroll/make changes in Workday, and how to reset your password.
- Learn where to find your SPS ID (also know as your W#)
- New Hires and Employees experiencing a job change will receive an email from stateofmaryland@myworkday.com to notify them of a “Benefit Event” in which they can enroll or make changes.
- New Hires should be assigned an SPS ID/W# within 2-3 weeks of being entered into the payroll system (PeopleSoft). Please see your payroll preparer with questions regarding being entered into the payroll system.
- New Hires will have 60 days from their hire date to enroll in health benefits via the SPS workday system. Coverage will be made effective on the 1st of the month following the hire date.
- Employees adding dependents will need to upload required documentation such as the marriage certificate for adding a spouse and a birth certificate to add a child.
- Contractual employees who wish to enroll in coverage should visit the ACA Eligibility page for more information and must be on a valid contract to enroll in health benefits via the SPS Workday system.

2018 W2s are Available
W2s have been mailed by Central Payroll Bureau and are available on the Payroll Online Service Center (POSC).
It appears that you can view/print your W2 from Chrome but you may need to "enable popups" for the W2 window to display.
Several payroll updates have been posted on the Human Resources website to include how to read your 2018 W2 and how to request a duplicate W2. The 2019 W4 is not currently available but the site will be updated as soon as we receive it.
