In wealthy nations, just half receive appropriate care, but in developing countries, close to 90 percent go untreated because psychiatrists are in such short supply. Vikram Patel outlines a highly promising approach -- training members of communities to give mental health interventions, empowering ordinary people to care for others.

After you watch, we invite you to reflect on the following:

What resonated for you in the video?

What lived experiences do you have, either personally or professionally that align with the core message of the talk?

As you think of your role as a student, employee, or manager what feels relevant and useful to remember?

What are you taking away that feels meaningful - either a new perspective, a potential action, etc.

How might we take better care of ourselves and each other during this time?

If you're a supervisor, consider using this talk for team building purposes! You might send the video ahead of your meeting with several reflection questions on which you'd like your staff to come prepared to speak.

These time sheets must be processed in time entry for PR15.

IMPACT: Processing late time sheets after PR15 time entry, for leave eligible employees, will result in leave reductions from the 2021 leave and post inaccurate balances.

Starting with the time sheet for pay period 16 (1/16/2022 thru 1/29/2022) and until the year-end leave process occurs, employees will notice the personal leave balance will reflect the unused personal hours from 2021 in addition to the hours for 2022. Any personal leave hours used or processed in the system after January 1, 2022 (ie. late time sheets or excess usage) will be deducted from the 2022 personal leave balance.

Maximum annual leave carryover into 2022, for full-time employees, is 480 hours. Carryover hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.

Supervisors should submit a Holiday Leave Carryover Exception Request Form (https://umbc.box.com/HolLeaveCarryoverExceptionPDF) for any employee approved to carry over unused holiday leave into calendar year 2022. The form must be signed by the Department Head and emailed to my attention for review and processing. Recommendation: Submit the waiver forms after January 7 to get an accurate account of the holiday(s) to carry into 2022.

Employees will notice updated leave balances, inclusive of processed year-end figures, on the time sheet for pay period 17 (ending 2/12/2022).

Payroll Preparers will be able to run the detailed leave report (use pay run id 2022016) to review leave data inclusive of year-end processing. Helpful note: The steps for year-end leave processing are as follows: (1) roll back excess or unused leave from 2021--applicable to annual and personal leave; (2) deduct leave used reported on time sheet 15; (3) add the leave accrual earned for PR15; (4) process manual adjustments entered by HR; and (5) calculate new ending leave balances.

If you have any questions, please contact me at mcnamara@umbc.edu.

Sherrell J.
Submit & Approve Time Sheets for PR14 by 1/6/2022

<Tagline>Don't Miss the Deadline</Tagline>

Please be mindful that the time sheet for pay period 2022-14 (ending 1/1/2022) is the last time sheet that will be processed for calendar year 2021. PR14 timesheet submissions and approvals are due by January 6, 2022.

Below are helpful factors that should be shared with supervisors and leave eligible employees.

To ensure that all leave is recorded and processed correctly for the 2021 calendar year, it is imperative that time sheets (pay period 14 and prior) are submitted and approved by Thursday, January 6, 2022.

Sherrell J.
