Kuali Implementation Selected for Job Well Done Award

The Office of
Sponsored Programs (OSP) Kuali Implementation group project has been selected
to receive the fall 2020 Job Well Done Award.

Kuali at UMBC
is a cloud based tool used to help administer all aspects of research
    administration. It is a platform
developed by and improved through the input from Universities. The UMBC project initiated in 2012 when Dean
Drake and Joe Kirby attended a Kuali Days conference in Atlanta as part of an
assessment of Electronic Research Administration tools. Once the decision was made, our initial
outreach and awareness began in September 2015 with phase one beginning in
spring 2016. The full implementation is nearly
complete. The project team will continue to implement new modules and
enhancements as part of the Kuali package offering.

The OSP Implementation
phase came in under budget and within schedule.
The group collaborated with other University System of Maryland (USM)
    institutions on the implementation.
Based on this collaboration, UMBC saved $40,000 a year on software
licensing and USM had a combined savings of $230,000 a year. These amounts do not even come close to the
intrinsic savings experienced by being on the same system as our sister USM
campuses. Nearly every USM institution has, or is in the process of,
    implementing Kuali.

This was a truly multi-unit project.
While OVPR/OSP led the project, multiple units across all of the
colleges and several central units were involved. The
project team members included, Stan Jackson, Chanell Rome, Jamie Cole, Daniele
    Franz, Jessica Holte, Cameron McAdams,
Michal Mielech, Rebecca O’Brien, Laura Taylor,
Michael Walsh, Deborah Waters, Gina Fischer, Margo Young, Bobbie Stocks,
Rachel Brubaker, Stacy Long, Aimee Howell, Deb Geare, Lee Blaney, Pat Slabach,
Lance Rand, Anthony Finneran, Joe Kirby, David Lucadamo, and Joanna Napoli.

Staff Awards - Consider a Nomination Today

<Tagline>A Message from President Hrabowski</Tagline>

Dear Colleagues,

UMBC is fortunate to have so many talented and
dedicated Exempt and Non-Exempt staff working to support our mission. This year
in particular, our staff have displayed exceptional creativity,
resourcefulness, and resilience as our University community has come together
to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff worked tirelessly to support our
transition to the new realities of online teaching and learning, implement
telework, and transform our physical campus to promote health and safety.

Each year, we encourage administrators,
faculty, and staff to nominate staff members for one of these prestigious
    awards:

UMBC Presidential Distinguished Staff Awards
University System of Maryland Board of Regents Staff Awards
Jakubik Family Endowment Staff Award
Karen L. Wensch Endowment Award for Outstanding Non-Exempt Staff

Given the outstanding contributions of our
staff during this unprecedented time, we ask that you reflect on the work
within your units and across the campus and nominate a colleague. This process
gives both UMBC and the University System of Maryland the opportunity to
recognize exemplary work at our University. We are eager to honor our
colleagues and need your help to do so.

Descriptions of the individual awards and the
eligibility requirements for each, as well as the nomination form, can be found
at 2020-21 Staff Awards. Each nomination should include the
nomination form, a single letter of recommendation, and the nominee’s resume or
job history form. Nominations should be sent by October 30 to Colleen
Rebeiro in the Office of the Provost at colleenr@umbc.edu.

    We hope the entire UMBC
community will engage in the nomination process. If you have questions about
the staff awards, please contact Sarah Shin, Associate Provost for
    Academic Affairs, at shin@umbc.edu.
