<Title>Important Notification:  Classification Requests</Title>

    </span><span>RE:         Classification Requests in Preparation of Anticipated
    COLA/Merit</span></p>
    
    <p><span><br>
    </span><span>As
    part of the anticipated COLA/Merit review process, the Human Resources
    Department will institute a temporary freeze on reclassification
    requests/actions (with the exception of reviews for vacant positions for recruitment and operationally critical staff retention requests)
    beginning Monday, May 15, 2023. Requests will be accepted again on Wednesday, July
    5, 2023. The freeze notification will be part of the final FY 2023 UMBC Salary
    Guideline (as in previous years). The Salary Guidelines will be posted as soon
    as they are available.</span></p><p>Class/Comp
    requests will be accepted through Friday, May 12<sup>th</sup> at 5:00 Eastern,
    after that they will be returned to the department/division for resubmission
    starting Wednesday, July 5<sup>th</sup>. We
    strongly recommend that supervisors refrain from changing the duties and
    responsibilities of staff during the freeze period given that we cannot process retroactive actions.</p><p>Classification/Compensation
    staff will continue their review and processing requests submitted prior to the freeze period, and will contact department liaisons with
    any questions related to those requests.</p><br></div></div>

<Title>Spring 2023 Job Well Done Group Project Award Recipients</Title>

    <div class="html-content">The Department of Human Resources would like to congratulate the spring 2023 Job Well Done Group Project Award recipients.   <div><br></div><div><div>The Foods for Fines project was selected for the spring 2023 Job Well Done Group Project Award.  The project team consisted of Gina Hurney, Parking Services, Harry Wilhelm, Parking Services, Lydia Sannella Retriever Essentials, and Ariel Barbosa, Retriever Essentials.</div><div><br></div><div>UMBC's  <a href="https://retrieveressentials.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Retriever Essentials</a> and Parking Services teamed up to develop Food for Fines. This program was created to collect food and toiletries for UMBC students facing food insecurity.</div></div><div><br></div><div><div>The project group collected approximately 300 pounds of food.  The group plans to build upon the success of the program and make it a semi-annual programming effort.</div><div><br></div><div>The Food for Fines project group would like to encourage UMBC community members to consider making a donation to Retriever Essentials.  Learn more about the current donation needs and where donations can be dropped off  <a href="https://retrieveressentials.umbc.edu/services/donate-items/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">here</a>.</div></div><div><br></div><div>Read more about the <a href="https://hr.umbc.edu/job-well-done-award-program/job-well-done-award-recipients-spring-2023/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Job Well Done Food for Fines project</a>. </div></div>

<Title>Time Sheet Delay:  Pay Period 2023-22 (Ending 4/22/2023)</Title>

As a result, there has been a slight delay in the availability of the time sheet in the Employee Time Sheet WorkCenter. The HRIS and DoIT teams are working to resolve the matter. <Title>April Training &amp; Learning Opportunities</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>Welcome to April and all the signs of Spring! With warmer days, members of our community spend more time outside and a vibrancy emerges along with the spring flowers. We are over halfway through the semester, with LOTS of great opportunities left to unite and learn together. April brings a focus on change, stress, and mindfulness. </span></p><p><span>April is </span><strong>Stress Awareness Month</strong><span>. Instead of one Wellness Wednesday session, we will be holding a session each Wednesday in April (10:30-12:00) for an exploration of Stress Awareness: causes &amp; impacts, stress management, stress at work, and creating a stress management plan. Come for as many as you are able.</span></p><p><span>Spring brings changes and transitions to our physical environment that we can see all around us. Change in our professional and personal lives aren't always as welcomed and our feelings about change can add to our stress. In April and May we lean into change and our reactions to it with two book discussion groups. First, we have a group based on the book </span><span><em><strong>Managing Transitions: Making the Most of Change</strong></em></span><span>, that is focused on "the human side of organizational change". This discussion is for managers and leaders and is led by Lynne Adams, CHRO, and Jill Wardell, Director of Workplace Learning, OD &amp; Wellness. Second, we have a group based on the book </span><em><strong>Thriving Through Uncertainty: Moving Beyond Fear of the Unknown and Making Change Work for You</strong></em><span>. This group is for anyone wanting to learn more about moving through uncertainty and welcoming change. This discussion group is led by Melody Wright and Monique Conelius of the Workplace Learning, OD &amp; Wellness team.</span></p><p><span>Mindfulness is a great resource to combat stress and uncertainty. Attached is a flyer announcing <strong>Community Mindfulness for Mental Health</strong>; mindfulness opportunities throughout April and May on Tuesdays and Fridays. These sessions are presented by a partnership between Human Resources and Retriever Integrated Health and are open to anyone in our community (students, faculty, staff). Registration for each session is individual, so sign up for those sessions that fit your schedule.</span></p><p><span>Other highlights this month include: two sessions of Violence Prevention: Behaviors of Concern; PMP Training for Supervisors; Effective Delegation; and Unconscious Bias.</span></p><p><span>Save the Date: </span></p><p><span><strong>HR WEEK</strong> is coming the week of May 8th! Join members of Human Resources for sessions throughout the week. Topics include: recruitment and retention; benefits; giving effective feedback; work-life balance; leading hybrid teams, payroll topics, and more! Everyone will also have the opportunity for a virtual meet and greet with all of the HR staff so you can put a face with the name.</span></p><p><strong>Retriever Talks 2023</strong><span> is coming in May! Save May 17th 10:00am-12:00pm with a reception following from 12:00-1:00. <Title>2023 USM METLIFE BENEFITS ANNUAL ENROLLMENT</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>The annual enrollment for <a href="https://www.metlife.com/info/usmd/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">USM MetLife</a> Optional Life Insurance and Long-Term Disability Insurance begins today, <span>March 1 and will run until March 15</span>.  <strong>Employees that already participate in one or both benefits, the current coverage will continue, with no action required.</strong></span></p><p><span>During this year's Annual Enrollment, eligible employees* may either enroll for the first time, increase or cancel their coverage. Elections made during this enrollment period will be effective April 1, 2023, or the first of the month following MetLife's approval of the request.</span></p><p>To take action, visit metlife.com/USMD and click the Enroll/View c<span>overage button at the top of the page. </span></p><p><strong>Login Information:</strong></p><ul><li>Employee ID= your W Number (no dashes or spaces).  <a href="https://umbc.app.box.com/file/380772273920?v=findingyourSPS-ID" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Click here</a><span> for instructions on how to locate your user ID/W-number.  </span></li><li><span>Initial PIN/password= the last four numbers of your W </span><span>number plus your four-digit birth year</span></li><li>Note, if you logged in during the past year, all <span>passwords have been reset to the above configuration for this </span><span>Annual Enrollment.</span></li></ul><p><span>Questions?</span><span> </span></p><p><span>Contact <a href="https://www.metlife.com/info/usmd/support/contact-us/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">USM MetLife</a>, they should respond within 1 business day.</span></p><p><span>*Employees that work 20 or more hours per week and are either a </span><em>Regular </em>or Contingent II employee.<strong> </strong></p></div>
