Please join us for a brown-bag lunch talk with Dr. Denise Meringolo
in the Discovery Center at the National Postal Museum:
“Collections, Audiences, and the Nature of the Past
in the Smithsonian Institution and the National Park Service”
12 – 1 pm, Wednesday November 2nd
Drawing on research from her book, Denise Meringolo will offer a critical comparison of the histories and philosophies of collecting and exhibition in the National Park Service and the Smithsonian Institution. Her talk will offer a context for discussing each institution’s efforts to alter collection and display practices as part of a larger effort to re-configure its relationship with under-represented communities.
This event will also stream live at http://postalmuseum.si.edu/SI-NPS_Practices.html
The recording will be available at this site until November 15.
Those participating can send questions and comments during the event to npmresearchchair@si.edu
