Find the Cure to Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
TeamChallenge Maryland is racing for the cure
posted over 13 years ago
I am training to run my first half marathon with Team Challenge this summer. I will be completing the 13.1 mile race to raise funds and awareness for research leading to a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Over the next several months I will pound the pavement, health permitting, running and raising funds to find a cure for this disease that has claimed over 1.4 million Americans, including myself. I will run in honor of my Grandmother who passed away from Crohn’s disease, as well as my cousin and I who inherited the chronic illness. I was diagnosed at 18 and have been struggling with the illness since. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are known together as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), IBD is a painful, medically incurable illnesses that attack the digestive system. The cause of IBD remains unknown. However, the effectiveness of recently developed treatment methods and steady advances in research brings us closer every day to finding the cause and probable cure of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Over 80% of every dollar I raise will directly fund the mission of CCFA, to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by inflammatory bowel diseases. I am hopeful you will join me in the fight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. You can help by donating as little or much as you can to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America. Donations are tax deductible, and if you donate $100 or more I’ll dedicate a mile to you! Please make donations by April 30, my personal fundraising deadline. Thank you for your generosity and support!
