Thanks to everyone who participated in our first (but certainly not last) Virtual Halloween Costume Contest! I know you have been excitedly waiting for the results, so here they are!
FIRST PLACE (and a $40 gift card to the Bookstore) goes to Jasmine Liu as the girl from Kiki's Delivery Service.

Honors College (Virtual) Halloween Costume Contest!
Hey Honors Folks,
Too old, perhaps, to Trick or Treat? But you are NEVER too old for a Halloween Costume Contest! Because we are not quite ready for an in-person event, however, we are going to do this virtually!
Here is what you need to know/do to join in on the fun:
- By Friday, October 22nd, at 5:00pm, send us two separate images: 1) a .jpeg, screenshot, etc., of the character or person you are dressing as, 2) a photo of yourself dressed as that character or person. See samples here!
- Send to honorscollege@umbc.edu with the email title: Costume Contest: Last Name
- We will compile a "ballot" over the weekend, and open voting on Monday, October 25th. Yes, there will be PRIZES for the Best Costume in a number of different categories.
Please keep in mind that this is a family show, so to speak; also, if you have an idea but are concerned it might be an example of cultural appropriation (vs. one of cultural appreciation), ask one of us in the Honors College. We'd be happy to talk it through with you!
OK, ready, set...get those costumes going!!
The UMBC Review: Journal of Undergraduate Research is currently soliciting submissions for its 23rd edition to be published in April 2022. We invite you to submit your research to our journal. The Review offers a rewarding opportunity to get your undergraduate research published!
The deadline to submit has been extended to Friday, September 24th. The submission application can be found here--just click the "Submit" button. We encourage students from all majors and disciplines to send in their research! Your papers do not have to be ready for publication or perfect right now; we just want to see the best work and research you have completed! Papers may include original research and/or artistic statements that explore the research and process you have completed, and discoveries you have made.

Wearing a professional outfit will not only boost your chances of getting a job, but is a major confidence booster as well. Visit our Professional Clothing Closet to select business attire absolutely FREE of charge and yours to keep! Stop by to shop for that suit, tie, skirt or blouse that will help you stand out while building your professional network and meeting employers.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID safety protocols, this will be a grab-and-go shopping opportunity – i.e. NO FITTING ROOMS!!
This year, we have arranged the Clothing Closet based on clothing item type to foster a more inclusive environment that moves away from binary clothing categories. This better recognizes the expansive ways clothes can be used to express oneself, outside of a gender binary.

Dear UMBC Students,
The Children and Families, Schooling and Development Lab is looking for volunteers to
participate in a research study investigating the effect of COVID-19 on students’ academics throughout the Fall 2020 semester.
This anonymous, online survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. There are no known risks or discomforts associated with this survey and participation is voluntary. Students enrolled in a psychology course this semester may be eligible to earn extra credit through Sona for participation.
