Reminder: Three Great Wednesday Events!
Hey Honors students, don't forget our three awesome Study Day activities!
- Study Day Donuts! Come to the Honors Lounge starting at 9:00 to grab a handful of sugary goodness to get you through your morning! (But don't delay...when they are gone, they are gone!)
- HCC's Gingerbread Decorating Contest! The event starts at noon, but drop in anytime for wintery beverages (hot mulled cider and hot chocolate), snacks, and a holiday movie! The actual judging will begin around 1:45, so give yourself enough time :-) Even if you did not RSVP, please come and decorate a sugar cookie or two :-)
- Want to go to Kenya with Dr. K and Kendyl in the summer of 2026? Join this virtual information session from noon-1:00pm. Will you be making gingerbread houses during that time? No worries! They will be recording the session, which you can access later.
Finally, this is way in the future, but I (Dr. Oakes lol) will be teaching HIST 103 this coming summer (hybrid, session two); if there is anyone out there who needs an Honors elective and/or a culture or social science GEP, I am willing to make it an "H" elective for anyone in the Honors College. Please contact me for more info!

Thanks to all ten Honors students who submitted designs--our biggest field yet! But there can only be one winner...and it is Isabel Kendall's awesome puppy shirt! Congratulations :-)
So, how do you get yours? Come to Homecoming, Saturday October 11th, where we give them to alumni and our students! If you cannot make it to Homecoming, we will be giving them out sometime the week of October 13th to our students on a first come, first served basis (after we announce the exact start date).

Honors College T-Shirt Design Contest!
Design the 2025-2026 Honors College T-Shirt!
It has been our tradition in the Honors College to have the students design a t-shirt for us each year...and we want you to be a part! Not a particularly artsy person? No worries! Our past winners have come from all majors.
Here are the guidelines:
1. Designs must be in one color and appear on only one side of a shirt.
2. Designs should include graphics and (appropriate) words only, with no background. They should not include copyrighted material.
3. Designs must include the words "UMBC Honors College."
4. Please submit in either a "print ready file in AI" OR a HIGH-RES PDF.
The deadline for submissions is Thursday, September 11th, by 11:59pm to honorscollege@umbc.edu. Voting will begin Friday, September 12th and run through Sunday, September 14th at 11:59 pm.

NEW Section of FINC 150H for Fall!
Hey Honors Folks,
I hope you are having an awesome summer thus far! Even MORE awesome is that Dr. Lamdin has opened up another section of FINC 150H with seven Honors seats open! Read on for more:
"If you are still doing some tweaking of your schedule, there are some open seats of FINC 150H (Financial Literacy) M 7:10-9:40 (Hybrid). This was added to the schedule earlier in the summer.
Students in the H section will do additional research beyond the material for the "regular" FINC 150. Research topics could be related to career choices and income, credit use and borrowing, saving and investing, insurance, fintech, and so on."
This could lead to an URCAD presentation and possible further research opportunities with Professor Lamdin. You can contact him for further information <
