The GSA and AOK Library have partnered together to organize graduate WAGs for the Fall 2022 Semester.
Deadline is Monday to join

What are Writing Accountability Group, or WAGs at UMBC?
What: Writing Accountability Groups (WAGs) are voluntary and facilitated by fellow UMBC graduate students
Who: WAGs are comprised of a group of graduate students (usually 4-8 participants per group) interested in developing writing habits and accountability
Why: Develop habits of writing every day for a short, manageable period of time by setting goals and being accountable to WAG peers
When: WAG groups meet once a week for 60-90 minutes for 10-12 weeks. The group finds a weekly time mutually convenient to all group members.
Where: The group decides on a mutually convenient location to meet, whether in person or online via WebEx or other video conferencing platform

Counseling Services Available!
Grad school can be difficult. No matter what year you are or what program you are in, imposter syndrome, managing stress from multiple avenues, and learning how to better regulate emotions, are all things one can struggle with while in a graduate program and beyond. UMBC's Counseling center/RIH will be hosting 6 different groups! Specifically for Graduate students, there is a virtual Support Group that discusses managing the ups and downs of Graduate School. Please see the attachments in this post for more information about these groups. The groups will be a mix of in-person (masked), and virtual via WebEx.
To join a group, please call 410-455-2542 to complete a brief triage and you will be given more information at that time.
We welcome you all to utilize these services to aid you in your graduate school journey!

Intercultural competency series - FREE event
Today at 10 AM and August 12, UC 115D
We are hosting a series on Intercultural Competency; this discussion/training series focuses on giving you tools to understand other cultures better, facilitate your interactions with persons from different backgrounds, and prepare you for success in your future career!
We will be discussing Intercultural Awareness, Intercultural Dialogue, and Intercultural Competence. With this training series, we hope to expand on your intercultural talents and share the knowledge, skills, and behavior necessary to function effectively and appropriately in intercultural environments to have better and more fruitful relationships in a globalized school and workplace.

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to welcome President Valerie Sheares Ashby to our community on her first day as the sixth leader of UMBC. All are welcome at this informal meet and greet; no RSVP is required.
