UMBC Connects Events
In the University Center room 312-- The UMBC Connects series offers students and alumni the opportunity to meet with recruiters and representatives from organizations that have partnered with the Career Center. Come introduce yourself and learn more about the visiting companies that are committed to connecting with UMBC talent.
Attend when you are able, there is no need to stay for the entire event.

3 Minute Thesis and Gritty Talk Training with Scott Morgan
Hello Everyone,
GEARS in collaboration with Scott Morgan, President of The Morgan Group of Washington is hosting a leadership workshop titled "3 Minute Thesis / The Gritty Talks Training Session" on November 16th, at 10 am, Commons 331.
The workshop is open to all graduate students at UMBC interested in improving their presentation skills.
However, it is well suited for students who are interested in participating in 3 Minute Thesis, PowerPoint Roulette, The Gritty Talks, etc.
Attendees will get tips regarding media training, and public speaking, and learn how to properly express an idea in a short time.

Rising Stars in Neuroscience Symposium
University of Utah invitation for URMs in Neuroscience
Neuroscience gradstudents,
You are invited to apply to the 4th annual Rising Stars in Neuroscience Symposium, hosted by the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Utah. The primary mission of this symposium is to provide career development and mentorship for graduate-level neuroscience trainees, with a strong focus on spotlighting scientists from under-represented groups.
This competitive symposium will provide senior graduate students the opportunity to present their research to a large, engaged audience and spend a day meeting one-on-one with faculty to discuss their work. A key training feature of the Rising Stars Symposium is a multi-stage science-communication workshop focusing on elevator pitches, academic lectures, poster presentations and figure design. The Rising Stars in Neuroscience symposium will also provide mentorship by developing partnerships between invited speakers and specific University of Utah Neurobiology Department faculty. Invited speakers who commit to joining a lab for their postdoctoral research in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Utah will also receive the Rising Stars in Neuroscience Postdoctoral award of $5000.
University of Utah is tremendously excited to offer a rigorous, multi-faceted training opportunity, focused on under-represented graduate students.
Applications for the 2024 Rising Stars Symposium are due December 15, 2023.

A community can be a vital tool to help all of us get through life’s ups and downs and celebrate our big and small moments. Community Conversations is an interactive event that will help students understand the role of community in supporting their well-being and mental health. This conversation will also highlight what it means to “show up” for others.
