Minimally, consultants are expected to provide initial triage and support for a wide-range of information technologies including accounts, hardware, instructional technologies, networking, software, telecommunications, and basic web development.</span></p><div><br></div><br><p><span>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:</span></p><br><ul><li><p><span>Provide technical assistance to users by phone, online and in person;</span></p></li></ul><ul><li><p><span>Answer TSC phones in a professional and courteous manner;</span></p></li><li><p><span>Create, update and resolve tickets in the Request Tracker (RT) ticketing system;</span></p></li><li><p><span>Create, update, suggest and recommend relevant FAQ articles to users (</span><a href="http://www.umbc.edu/faq)" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>www.umbc.edu/faq</span></a><span>);</span></p></li><li><p><span>Provide direct assistance to users on technical issues they cannot easily resolve on their own;</span></p></li><li><p><span>Complete in-person or online training about quality support as defined in</span><a href="http://umbc.edu/go/ticketrubric" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>umbc.edu/go/ticketrubric</span></a><span>;</span></p></li><li><p><span>Respond to all work related communications in a timely manner;</span></p></li><li><p><span>Escalate urgent problems to the Full-Time staff, as appropriate.</span></p></li></ul><br><p><span>Required Skills and Experience</span></p><br><ul><li><p><span>Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate by phone or in person.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Demonstrated writing ability.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Demonstrated ability to achieve successful outcomes in handling difficult situations and customers.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting skills.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Ability &amp; willingness to learn coupled with clear understanding of one’s technical abilities, so as to triage and escalate an issue that leads to an effective solution for the user.</span></p></li></ul></span></div>

<Title>Known Issue: Export/Import Bb Course May Return Invalid File</Title>

For additional information, please <a href="https://wiki.umbc.edu/x/XgE1Aw" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">review this FAQ</a>.</strong></div><div><br></div><div>Normally, instructors can create a course export package by navigating to Control Panel &gt; Packages and Utilities &gt; Export/Archive Course &gt; Export Package. <span><br><br>However, when a course is exported from UMBC’s Blackboard system and imported into another Blackboard system -- like </span><a href="http://my.umbc.edu/groups/bbannouncements/news/48709" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>the one Blackboard will run for Winter and Spring 2015</span></a><span> courses -- faculty may receive a “invalid file” error message.  </span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><img src="https://umbc.blackboard.com/bbcswebdav/institution/images/InvalidFile.png" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></div><div></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Basically, the files still exist, but if the course has been repeatedly exported and imported over many semesters, which has been UMBC’s practice, all that exists on the new Blackboard system are links to the files on UMBC’s system, not the files themselves. <Title>Science &amp; Math Teaching Positions Available *NOW* at Anne Arundel Community College</Title>

    <p>Our colleagues at Anne Arundel Community College are seeking scholars with science and/or math backgrounds, and at least a master’s degree, to teach classes in the sciences. There are at least three courses that need an instructor for the Spring 2015 semester. They are asking for applicants ASAP. In addition, the Math Department at AACC (where PROMISE AGEP Alum, Dr. Alycia Marshall is Chair) is seeking three full-time faculty positions. We have a partnership with AACC through our PROMISE AGEP and the PROF-it program (<a href="http://promiseagep.wordpress.com/archived-posts/prof-it-professors-in-training/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">http://promiseagep.wordpress.com/archived-posts/prof-it-professors-in-training/</a>) and we want to extend these opportunities to all graduate students and postdocs.     <p>The Physical Science department needs people interested and willing to teach General Physical Science Lecture and lab (PHS 100), General Chemistry Lecture and Lab (Che 111), Oceanography (PHS 109), and Physics Lecture and Lab (algebra or Calculus based).</p>
    <p>The requirements for the position are a Master’s degree in the subject area or a related area (Many engineering degrees, or Science Education Degrees are acceptable).  Teaching experience is preferred but not required.</p>
    <p>All of our courses have course coordinators, and sample materials are readily available.  All lab curriculum are set, and we have a full complement of lab staff, so instructors do not have to do any lab set up or take down.</p>

    <p>The math department is searching for three new full-time faculty members to join our department for the upcoming academic year.</p>
    <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p>
    <p>Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics.  Ability to teach a wide variety of courses included developmental and credit-level math courses is required.  Candidate should have demonstrated experience integrating technology and innovative teaching strategies to improve student learning.</p>
    <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p>
    <p>Community College teaching experience is preferred.  Experience teaching online, hybrid, statistics and/or math courses for elementary education majors is highly desirable.  Experience in accelerated and/or technology-supported developmental mathematics programs and an ability to teach upper-level STEM courses such as the calculus series (Calculus 1, 2 and 3), Differential Equations, Linear Algebra and/or Discrete Structures is a plus.  A strong candidate has knowledge of the community college’s mission and issues directly related to serving community college students.  A Ph.D. is not required, but highly desirable.</p>

    <p>The Physical Science department needs people interested and willing to teach General Physical Science Lecture and lab (PHS 100), General Chemistry Lecture and Lab (Che 111), Oceanography (PHS 109), and Physics Lecture and Lab (algebra or Calculus based).</p>
    <p>The requirements for the position are a Master’s degree in the subject area or a related area (Many engineering degrees, or Science Education Degrees are acceptable).  Teaching experience is preferred but not required.</p>
    <p>All of our courses have course coordinators, and sample materials are readily available.  All lab curriculum are set, and we have a full complement of lab staff, so instructors do not have to do any lab set up or take down.</p>

    <p>The math department is searching for three new full-time faculty members to join our department for the upcoming academic year.</p>
    <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p>
    <p>Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics.  Ability to teach a wide variety of courses included developmental and credit-level math courses is required.  Candidate should have demonstrated experience integrating technology and innovative teaching strategies to improve student learning.</p>
    <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p>
    <p>Community College teaching experience is preferred.  Experience teaching online, hybrid, statistics and/or math courses for elementary education majors is highly desirable.  Experience in accelerated and/or technology-supported developmental mathematics programs and an ability to teach upper-level STEM courses such as the calculus series (Calculus 1, 2 and 3), Differential Equations, Linear Algebra and/or Discrete Structures is a plus.  A strong candidate has knowledge of the community college’s mission and issues directly related to serving community college students.  A Ph.D. is not required, but highly desirable.</p>

    <div class="html-content"><p><em>PROMISE AGEP: Maryland Transformation</em> is pleased to invite you to attend and participate in the <strong>2015 University System of Maryland PROMISE AGEP Research Symposium and Professional Development Conference.</strong> This conference replaces the former PROMISE Research Symposium, and adds a professional development component that will prepare graduate students and postdoctoral fellows for faculty positions in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM, which includes social sciences) disciplines. This conference seeks to provide a venue that will allow students to present their work at any stage, receive feedback in preparation for presenting at larger venues, and provide training that will prepare participants for faculty careers.</p>

    <div class="html-content"><p><em>PROMISE AGEP: Maryland Transformation</em> is pleased to invite you to attend and participate in the <strong>2015 University System of Maryland PROMISE AGEP Research Symposium and Professional Development Conference.</strong> This conference replaces the former PROMISE Research Symposium, and adds a professional development component that will prepare graduate students and postdoctoral fellows for faculty positions in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM, which includes social sciences) disciplines. This conference seeks to provide a venue that will allow students to present their work at any stage, receive feedback in preparation for presenting at larger venues, and provide training that will prepare participants for faculty careers.</p>

    <p>Nancy S. Shapiro is Associate Vice Chancellor for Education and Outreach and Special Assistant to the Chancellor for P-20 Education at the University System of Maryland. As the principal investigator on major federal grants totaling over $30 million dollars from and the National Science Foundation (MSP) and the U.S. Department of Education (TQE), she has worked to build sustainable partnerships between colleges, universities and public schools which support high quality professional development in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) content areas and prepare future teachers for urban schools. She leads the University System of Maryland’s STEM Initiative focused on increasing the number of STEM teachers produced by the public higher education institutions in Maryland.  She led a System-wide initiative on Academic Transformation and Course Redesign, with special emphasis on redesigning STEM courses for undergraduate general education.  Before coming to the University System Office, Dr. Shapiro served as the Founding Executive Director of the College Park Scholars program, and directed the writing programs at the University of Maryland, College Park. She has authored numerous books and articles on creating and sustaining learning communities and has served as an external evaluator and consultant on projects related to STEM teaching and learning, academic transformation, and College Board Affinity Network investment in college access and success.</p>

    <p><strong>December 31, 2014:</strong> “Letter of Intent” to present. This very short email should include  name, school, department, choice of oral category (1, 2, 3) or poster, and potential title of your presentation. Email to <a href="mailto:promisestaff@gmail.com">promisestaff@gmail.com</a> with the title, “2015 PROMISE Research Symposium – Intent to Present.”</p>
    <p><em>“TED-Styled” and “Lightning Round” titles must be tailored to appeal to a general audience.</em></p>
    <p><strong>January 23, 2015, </strong> Deadline for “Intent to Present” emails for <em>Lightening Round</em> and <em>Poster Presentations </em><span>only.</span>  Everyone who expressed an “Intent to Present” as of Dec. 31, 2014, will be in line for the presentation style of their choice. Those who did not specify a category will be given a space for a poster. All of the slots in the “Traditional Presentation” Category #1, and the “TED-Styled Talk” Category #2, are taken, and we will not accept any more requests for those categories. We have some slots remaining in the “Lightning Round” Category #3, and we have slots remaining for posters.</p>

This means there are no more quotas or size limits to the amount of mail, documents or files you can store on Google. <Title>Spring 2015 Blackboard Drop-in Hours</Title>

    <div class="html-content">To support faculty ongoing Blackboard support needs,  DoIT will be offering additional weekly drop-in hours beginning Wednesday, January 7th. A DoIT staff member will be available to work one-on-one with users who show up during the designated times.<br><br>Drop-In sessions this term are intended to support instructors' adaptation to the new <a href="https://wiki.umbc.edu/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=51413418" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">managed hosting environment</a> and will include assistance for the following tools:<br><ul><li><a href="https://wiki.umbc.edu/display/faq/Tips+for+Faculty+-+About+the+Grade+Center" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Grade Center</a></li><li><a href="http://doit.umbc.edu/itnm/managing-content/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Adaptive Release</a></li><li><a href="https://wiki.umbc.edu/display/faq/Blackboard+Collaborate" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Collaborate</a></li><li><a href="https://wiki.umbc.edu/display/faq/TechSmith+Relay" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">TechSmith Relay </a></li></ul>Given variation in user needs and scheduling, the Drop-In format will be as follows:<br><ol><li><strong>Orientation</strong> (5 minutes): A quick overview of what the tool does. If all you want is a demo, come early.</li><li><strong>Recommendations</strong> (10 minutes): 1-2 tips based on our observations from providing faculty support, as well identification of effective practices  and practitioners.</li><li><strong>Q &amp; A</strong> (40 minutes): This is your time. What do you want to know? What's a problem you'd like to solve or a new opportunity you'd like to explore?</li></ol>In addition to the F2F sessions, DoIT will also offer virtual drop-in sessions using Blackboard's web-conferencing tool, <a href="https://wiki.umbc.edu/display/faq/Blackboard+Collaborate?src=search" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Collaborate</a>.
