CIRTL is dedicated to training faculty, particularly future faculty. Their mission is as follows:

CIRTL's Director at UMBC is Dr. Anne Spence. Dr. Spence has been one of our core faculty for the PROF-it Professors-in-Training program for many years.

Flipped Classrooms: What Are They, and Why Should You Use Them?
Speaker: Martha Dunkelberger, Assistant Clinical Professor, Undergraduate Program Coordinator, Communication Sciences and Disorders, University of Houston
Discussion: Flipped classrooms turn the traditional teaching model on its head by introducing students to new concepts outside of class (rather than through lectures) and using class time to deepen that knowledge through exercises and other activities. This kind of format can fuel collaborative learning and strengthen understanding of complex topics. Join us to learn how this design works in practice and join a discussion on how it can be applied to the STEM classroom.
The PROMISE AGEP enjoys a partnership with the Ana G. Méndez University System in Puerto Rico, with campuses in Florida (Orlanda and Tampa Bay), and Maryland (Wheaton). The Ana G. Méndez University (AGMUS) offers a unique degree program for adult learners, using a dual language model of Spanish and English. You can read more about the Capital Area Campus on Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton, Maryland here: http://www.suagm.edu/capitalareacampus/. The Maryland Capital Area Campus is a hub or center for three universities in Puerto Rico, offering particular courses and degrees from each campus. In this way, professionals who want to have careers that utilize two languages, can receive their undergraduate and/or graduate degrees using the Dual-Language degree model here in Maryland without having to go to Puerto Rico.
The Chancellor of AGMUS, Dr. Carlos Padin and other faculty from the Puerto Rico campus, along with the Capital Area Campus Director (president) Silvia Navarro and the Academic Director, Ivette Cruz, have participated in SSI, and have been great supporters of PROMISE. The Capital Area Campus came to UMBC last semester to provide a system-wide seminar that discussed the opportunities at the AGMUS campus in Maryland. AGMUS is offering additional courses for teaching, and they offer these to you. You may take the asynchronous courses online, or come to the Capital Area Campus in Wheaton, Maryland to attend in person. Albin O. Kuhn Bowling League Schedule
Special Collections continues our archival project Archives Gold: 50 Objects for UMBC's 50th, a special series showcasing 50 different objects that tell the story of UMBC. This week we present a bowling schedule from the 1968 UMBC duckpin bowling league.

UMBC's first chancellor, Albin O. Kuhn, worked hard to be an active figure in the UMBC community. One way he did this was by participating in a UMBC duckpin bowling league in 1968. The league consisted of various members of the UMBC community including faculty, staff, and their spouses. Chancellor Kuhn and his wife, Libby, can be seen on the above 1968 bowling schedule, under Team 5 and Team 3 respectively.
