    <div>We are pleased to announce that the application for the 2018 Environmental Fellows Program is now open! The <a href="http://efp-umich.squarespace.com/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Environmental Fellows Program</a> is a summer fellowship program for masters and doctoral students that seeks to place students traditionally underrepresented in the environmental field and those committed to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in summer fellowships with environmental foundations and their grantees.</div>

    <p><strong><u>Application OPEN. Deadline to apply is <span><span>February 7, 2018</span></span></u></strong></p>

    <div>The Environmental Fellows Program involves:</div>
    <div>
    <ul>
    <li>A 13-week fellowship at either an environmental grantmaking foundation, or at one of their grantees. Past placement sites include: Center on Race, Poverty &amp; the Environment; Earthjustice; Toxics Action Center, New England Grassroots Environment Fund, and many more!</li>
    <li>Fellows will receive a stipend of $10,000 plus a travel allowance.</li>
    <li>Last year’s cohort worked on a wide variety of issues: environmental health, clean energy, marine conservation, transit solutions, energy justice, to name just a few!</li>
    <li>Fellowship placement sites are available in a range of places included but not limited to New York City, Boston/New England region, San Francisco, and Ann Arbor, MI</li>
    <li>Fellows receive training in diversity, equity, and inclusion; institutional culture; and professional development.</li>
    </ul>

Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) seeks an individual to provide vision, leadership and strategic direction for a wide range of digital systems and services including new technology and library legacy technologies.  The position is responsible for ensuring quality and reliable delivery of library technology systems and services and should encourage exploration in support of teaching, research, learning and collaboration for current and a new generation of library users.  The position works closely with the UMBC Division of Information Technology, library and university personnel.  The incumbent, as an Associate Director of the Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery, will be part of the Library Executive Committee and have a voice in developing library policy for the 21st Century.  The position reports to the Library Director.<br><br><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong><br>Develops a technology plan that builds on the University’s and Library’s strategic plans to address new opportunities and pursue possibilities of adapting and applying technology solutions. Participates in library planning; serves on library-wide and university committees and task forces including the Library Executive Council. Works in partnership with the campus Division of Information Technology for discovery, planning and implementation of new technology. Leads the library’s investigation and implementation of emerging technology to better serve the campus. Keeps current with trends and issues in the IT industry, including current technologies and costs. Provides leadership in coordinating and defining technology requirements for library-wide projects and initiatives. Oversees Library Information Technology Services composed of library faculty and staff and student employees and works with other areas of the library and university that are affiliated with technology. In partnership with the Division of Information Technology insures that library systems and computing are robust and operational.<br><br><strong>REQUIREMENTS: </strong><br><ul><li>ALA accredited MLS or equivalent advanced degree.</li><li>Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in IT-related project management in one or more of the following in an academic library setting:</li><ul><li>Database development</li><li>Network engineering</li><li>Hardware and software upgrades to mission critical applications</li><li>Application development</li></ul><li>Experience with library technologies and technology planning and demonstrated knowledge of current technology trends.</li><li>Strong analytical and decision making skills.</li><li>Demonstrated project management experience.</li><li>Evidence of leadership and management ability.</li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably and personably both orally and in writing.</li></ul><strong>SALARY AND BENEFITS:</strong>  Position is a 12-month library faculty appointment at anticipated rank of Librarian II.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.  Minimum salary: $85,000 -$95,000 comprehensive benefits.  The expected candidate will be expected to meet library and university requirements for reappointment, promotion, and permanent status.<br><br><br><strong>To Apply:</strong>  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  For best consideration, please respond by January 31, 2018.     <p>The SFI Complex Systems Summer School (CSSS) offers an intensive 4-week introduction to complex behavior in mathematical, physical, living, and social systems. Lectures are taught by the faculty of the Santa Fe Institute (SFI). The school is for students and professionals seeking to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries and ask big questions about real-world complex systems.</p>
    <p>The program consists of an intensive series of lectures, labs, and discussion sessions focusing on foundational concepts, tools, and current topics in complexity science. Participants collaborate in developing novel research projects throughout the 4 weeks of the program that culminate in final presentations and papers.</p>

    <p>The primary goal of the summer workshop is to assist graduate students pursuing research agendas which include a computational modeling component. A significant portion of the workshop will be devoted to analyzing and improving research being conducted by the graduate student participants.</p>

    <p><strong>PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION</strong><br>
    The summer intern will support the Multi-Asset Research Team by conducting financial and quantitative/statistical analysis usually at the asset class level, covering the areas of strategic and tactical asset allocation, financial planning research, data/infrastructure, and product design projects as needed.</p>
    <p><strong>PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES</strong><br>
    Independently, or in collaboration with other quantitative or technical analysts, under the guidance of the Director of Research, execute research projects that have been identified to meet the investment needs of the broader Multi-Asset Division:<br>
    Identify the core issue and shape/design the project<br>
    Identify and absorb existing research on the subject (internal or external)<br>
    Identify (and procure) the most appropriate method/tool/dataset to address the issue</p>
    <p>Execute operational duties, such as ongoing generation and maintenance of asset allocation related investment reports, data sets, or analytical infrastructure.</p>
    <p>Perform data analysis and information gathering in response to ad hoc inquiries.</p>
    <p><u><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></u><br>
    <strong>Required</strong><br>
    Must be a Ph.D. candidate expected to graduate in May ’19 majoring in a quantitative discipline<br>
    Strong academic credentials and evidence of ability to independently deliver results<br>
    Experience programming in Matlab, Splus/R, Python, and SQL<br>
    Experience conducting empirical research working with large datasets<br>
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; willingness to learn new approaches to problem-solving<br>
    Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team<br>
    Excellent oral and written communication skills<br>
    Ability to multi-task and to simultaneously push forward several projects</p>

<Title>Federal Government Internship Opportunity</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)/ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Public Health Student Intern Program (PHSIP) is looking for an intern from your program.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>HRSA’s Office of Human Resources (OHR) is the hiring entity looking for an intern.  OHR  provides a variety of in-house services to all of the HRSA, including but not limited to: selection, recruitment, benefits, ethics, training, etc.  The internship focus would vary depending on placement within OHR but would be focused on developing the intern to accomplish special assignments during their internship.</p>

    <p>HRSA’s mission is to “improve health care access and quality, promote best practices and eliminate health disparities.  HRSA programs serve everyone from infants to the elderly, to assure that people in the U.S. have access to a broad range of essential personal and public health services.     <p>HRSA’s PHSIP is an unpaid internship opportunity that serves to provide career exploration in the federal government, shadowing, valuable experience, and academic credit as approved by the academic institution to students across a variety of disciplines.  Internship terms are flexible and can vary depending on the needs of the academic institution and the intern.  The PHSIP operates on a rolling and continuous basis, and internships can start/end throughout the year.  Each intern will be assigned to a preceptor for supervision and mentoring purposes.  Interns must be currently enrolled, students.  Internships are limited to 6 month periods.   Please visit this site for more information about HRSA’s Public Health Student Internship Program (PHSIP): <a href="https://www.hrsa.gov/about/jobs/internprogram.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">https://www.hrsa.gov/about/jobs/internprogram.html</a> .  Applicants with Industrial/Organizational Psychology or other related education are preferred.</p>
