On Saturday, May 5, 2018, PROMISE AGEP will be hosting its annual PROMISE AGEP Friends and Family Cookout! You are invited to come, bring your friends, family, and anyone who supported your journey through graduate school. This event is free! Graduate students from all schools within the University System of Maryland (USM) are invited!

Friends and family members of students who have participated in PROMISE are invited.

UPDATE 5/5/18 – 9:15 AM: There is a forecast for rain, but it is not scheduled to start until later in the afternoon. This event is under a pavilion. We will have music, games, and food until 2:30, and will start the recognition of graduates at 2:30 and likely end at 3 PM to avoid the pending rain.

Dr. Damon Bradley, NASA Scientist, is also an international DJ. Dr. Bradley received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from UMBC, and leads an award-winning engineering team at NASA. He will be the featured artist at the cookout. 

Parking: There is on-site free parking. Centennial Park has many entrances, the Pavilion that we rented (D) is near the Main/South entrance (the address is 1000 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21042). We suggest that you carpool since spaces might be limited.

As part of our ongoing commitment to security, the Unix Infrastructure group will be conducting its quarterly system patching on Friday, March 16th and Saturday, March 17th.  While many of the systems will be patched without any service disruption, there are some systems which require the downtime of key services.  The schedule below outlines which key services will be offline and for how long.

Friday, 3/16/2018 between 5pm and 8pm (most systems will only be down for a short period during this time): 

• The web hosting environments (virthost and jabba) will be partially unavailable (pages will be available but any database calls will not work)
• Access to Cyrus and UMBC Webmail (accounts not migrated to UMBC Gmail)
• All mail will be queued up and delivered after the server is patched
• Expected to be unreachable from 5pm to 7pm
• All HFS (user) servers will be offline
• Certain software licenses will be unavailable (autodesk, cadence, idl, schrodinger, xilinx, mathematica)

Saturday, 3/17/2018 between 10am and Noon(most systems will only be down for a short period during this time):

• myUMBC lite page will be up resulting in reduced myUMBC functionality
• Wiki will be unavailable
• The sites (wordpress) web hosting environment will be unreachable
