    <strong>Member Duties :</strong> The second year CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will implement the current working operation manual to continue streamlining all Retriever Essentials programming, while updating it to ensure needs are met in the most efficient way possible. They will oversee volunteer recruitment and coordination for daily operations of the food pantry, which include: donation collection, inventory, bag packing, and bag delivery. The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will also be tasked with developing a fundraising plan in order to raise money to support Retriever Essentials’ proposal for a permanent pantry space on campus. They will also work to develop collaborative partnerships with departments and student groups, as well as the Retrievers Action Committee, on and off campus to provide programming and events around food justice, healthy eating on a budget, and much more. Additionally, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will create and implement a student-board to help institutionalize Retriever Essentials.</td></tr>

Our shared values of inclusive excellence, collaboration, innovation, and impact inform not only what we do but why we do it. Our values can also help shape our day-to-day behaviors – who we are and who we choose to be – and this choice matters for all of us. Building and strengthening culture requires everyone to play a part.</span><br><br><span>Please join us for this year's </span><a href="https://t.e2ma.net/click/br1goc/nwtbnbb/vmb5so" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Professional Development Day</a><span>, which centers around the importance of culture and community, and the collective ways we can strengthen our foundation to address existing challenges and intentionally shape our future. We are delighted to be joined by internationally acclaimed author, speaker, and leadership consultant </span><a href="https://t.e2ma.net/click/br1goc/nwtbnbb/bfc5so" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Dr. Margaret ‘Meg’ Wheatley</a><span>. </span><strong>The event will be held on Monday, April 29, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., in the Proscenium Theatre, Performing Arts and Humanities Building</strong><span>.</span><br><br><span>Wheatley is the bestselling author of nine books, from the classic </span><em>Leadership and the New Science</em><span> (which has received multiple awards in </span><em>Industry Magazine</em><span>, </span><em>CIO Magazine</em><span>, and was hailed by Xerox Corporation as one of the “Top Ten Business Books of All Time”) to her newest book, </span><em>Who Do We Choose To Be? Facing Reality, Claiming Leadership, Restoring Sanity</em><span>. At UMBC, she will discuss ways to positively shape our culture; persevere together in times of significant change; and more meaningfully connect with and support each other as community members.</span><br><br><span>The presentation will be part keynote and part facilitated conversation, with questions for us to reflect upon as a community and discuss. This event will kick off additional campus conversations and events related to the topic. </span><br><br><strong>Registration is required and the deadline is Monday, April 22</strong><span>. Participants who attend will receive a complimentary copy of one of Wheatley’s books and will have the opportunity to have it personally signed following the program. <Title>Sexual Violence/Misconduct Resources Now Available</Title>
<Tagline>Prevention, Care, and Support Resources in The Commons</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>Increasing access to resources for sexual violence/misconduct prevention and response is one of the priorities for UMBC’s </span><a href="https://courage.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Retriever Courage</span></a><span> initiative. In September 2018, students shared that UMBC community members often don’t know how or where to seek help and support, or where they can access training and learn how to be better bystanders and support survivors.</span></p>
    <br><p><span>The activist/advocacy student group, We Believe You proposed a pilot project featuring two resource stands in The Commons with brochures for on- and off-campus information. The stands are installed on the ground floor by the stairs near the Yum Shoppe and in the lobby across from the information desk. They include UMBC’s </span><a href="https://umbc.box.com/s/fwysc7ntqppiulkt71ke339348kwm7x0" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>on-campus resources brochure</span></a><span> and materials from the </span><a href="https://mcasa.org/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault</span></a><span>, </span><a href="https://mcasa.org/survivors/sali" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Sexual Assault Legal Institute</span></a><span>, </span><a href="https://turnaroundinc.org/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Turnaround</span></a><span>, and </span><a href="https://www.rainn.org/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>RAINN</span></a><span>.</span></p>
    <br><p><span>“We want resources for survivors to be as easily accessible as possible, but it is also important for conversations about assault and prevention to be normalized and not considered taboo,” explains </span><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/webelieveyou" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>We Believe You</span></a><span> President </span><span>Nadia BenAissa </span><span>‘20, gender, women’s, and sexuality studies. “We want people to walk into buildings and see that we’re putting more into the conversation and that the University is doing what was promised last fall.”</span></p>
    <br><p><span>We Believe You members will keep track of brochure quantities to determine how the stands are being used during the spring semester before making recommendations to </span><a href="https://courage.umbc.edu/partners/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Retriever Courage partners</span></a><span> about expanding the project. The </span><a href="https://courage.umbc.edu/partners/#implementation-team" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Retriever Courage Implementation Team</span></a><span> is also working with partners to find additional ways to post resources and information across campus. </span></p>
