Strategic Enrollment Planning Update

We are writing to provide you with an update on our strategic enrollment planning effort that was formally launched at the university retreat earlier this year.

The first phase of our planning focused primarily on research related to UMBC’s undergraduate students and included a review and assessment of enrollment and student success outcomes. The next phase will focus primarily on graduate student enrollment and progression.

We would like to acknowledge and thank the many members of the UMBC community who have engaged in the planning process to date and have provided important perspectives and input to the planning process through the university retreat, faculty, department chair, staff, student and program director focus groups, interviews and the hundreds of people who responded to faculty/staff survey. As the planning process proceeds, it will entail similar assessments and engagements.

We invite you to visit our Strategic Enrollment Planning website to learn more about our efforts (including preliminary results of the faculty and staff survey) and invite your further participation in this important endeavor.

Phillip Rous, Provost
Lynne Schaefer, Vice President, Finance and Administration

We are pleased to announce the formal launch of the Instructional Space and Scheduling Improvements Initiative (ISSI). Consistent with recommendations in UMBC’s Strategic Plan, the purpose of this initiative is to develop recommendations to significantly improve the availability and utility of instructional spaces at UMBC. This initiative follows from the Instructional Space and Scheduling Review Study that was conducted by Educational Consulting Services Corp. (ECS) and resulted in two reports: the Utilization Report and the Key Issues and Planning Directions Report. Based on the content of these reports, three informational sessions were conducted for the UMBC community in April and May 2019.

In order to develop a set of recommendations, we’ve established an ISSI steering committee, task force, and five working teams representing a broad range of campus stakeholders. Detailed information on the charges for each of the working teams, their membership, and the project timeline can be found here. We will continue to inform the campus of progress made and will seek input from community members as the project unfolds. In the meantime, we welcome your suggestions and feedback.
We are grateful to Tony Moreira and Sarah Shin for their leadership as co-chairs of the Instructional Space and Scheduling Improvements Task Force and to all members of the task force and the five working teams for their dedication and commitment to this important endeavor.
