Dear UMBC Community,

Today our community is experiencing both the happy milestone of Commencement celebrations and the pain of lives lost to gun violence in too many communities, from Baltimore to Buffalo and now Uvalde, Texas. We appreciate the strong message sent today by University System of Maryland Chancellor Jay Perman and want to share with all of you his call for increased caring and common sense. We also know our work together in higher education continues to be vital to elevating both compassion and wisdom, and we thank you for all that you do to make a difference every day. It gives us hope to know that our graduates in all disciplines are prepared as citizens to provide leadership addressing the many challenges we face as a society, including mental health and gun violence.

If you are in need of emotional support in light of these recent tragedies, please ask for help. Students in need of support can contact the Counseling Center at (410) 455-2542 on weekdays, 8:30 a.m. -- 5 p.m., or the after-hours support line at (410) 455-3230. Faculty and staff can access support through the Employee Assistance Program.

The DocuSign system has been brought back online. I do not know the cause of the issue today yet. I have tested a few forms successfully. Please know it could be a little sluggish as everyone in North America begin to get back in.

 Events and Conference Services have changed their policy regarding reserving space on campus. GSOs need to start reserving space for Fall 2022 events beginning now and into the summer. Large and small scale events are included in this policy change. Please ensure that you are submitting requests for this Fall beginning now or space will become unavailable once the Fall semester starts. Space for meetings can be reserved now or closer to the Fall semester. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to gsa@umbc.edu with any questions or concerns.

The Workplace Learning, OD & Wellness Department encourages all campus GAs, faculty and staff to complete the following needs assessment survey as part of our commitment to serving campus personal and professional development needs.  Your input is critically important as we plan learning and wellness programming for UMBC faculty and staff for the next two years.

We recommend that you consider taking this anonymous survey when you have had time to reflect on your personal learning and wellness goals. The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.

We invite the entire UMBC community to join us in celebrating the Class of 2022 by tuning in here for live streams of the Commencement ceremonies.
Please note that these in-person events may cause traffic delays in and around campus. 

Join in the festivities now by sharing your graduation photo or a congratulations photo in our Commencement 2022 Photo Booth and participating in a virtual version of a UMBC tradition by Rubbing True Grit's Nose!
