This
came out a little while back, but since the Women's Center will be
showing "Living Dolls: The Making of a Child Beauty Queen",
it made me think of this video. The little girl in the video is named
is Lisa Fontana, was 8 years-old at the time it was made and is from
Brazil. So, she sings and performs to "Bad Romance" and
"Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga. If you have a daughter, a little
sister or niece, would you want her prancing around in a leotard,
gyrating her hips and crawling on the floor to Lady Gaga while
singing "I want your 'ugly', I want your disease" and
"I want your vertical stick"? (And we all know what "ugly"
and "vertical stick" are referring to.) Don't get me wrong--I love Lady Gaga, but don't find her lyrics or dance moves appropriate for a child to be performing. I'm quite aware
that the Latin American society is a patriarchal one with machismo
being so commonplace that it's just accepted by many, but must
the sexual objectification of females start out so young? (Not
implying that it's right at any age.) This is a bit too much, folks.
What are these parents thinking? What happened to children singing
Annie's "Tomorrow"?
WRONG
ON ALL LEVELS. What do you think?
