Changing Maryland: 2022 Legislative Session on Monday, February 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.
You will meet state leaders and learn about their work, experiences, and aspirations relating to issues being addressed in the 2022 legislative session, including climate change, police reform, health care, higher education, and allocation of the historically large state budget surplus. You will also learn how to get involved in addressing these issues. Follow this link to RSVP (required).

You will spend the evening with UMBC students, staff, and faculty talking about how we can strengthen the UMBC community as we emerge from the pandemic: How can students, staff, and faculty restore and extend the sense of belonging many felt before March 2020? Dr. Robert Deluty, associate dean emeritus of the Graduate School, has published a new book of poetry, "Sensations and Associations." In his review, Dr. Ronald Pies writes, "In Robert Deluty's remarkable 63d book, Don DeLillo is quoted as saying, 'But I'm not trying to manipulate reality. This is just what I see and hear.' The same may be said of Robert Deluty, who sees our crazy, ramshackle, and benighted world just as it is, without manipulation or make-up. But seeing and hearing - the "sensations" of the collection's title - take on a heightened acuity in Deluty's poems, which focus on human foibles in all their poignancy and humor. James Dickey once described poetry as 'the last refuge of non-manipulative language.' Deluty's excellent new collection affirms this in its clear-eyed but humane vision."

Do you have an idea for a company or social impact venture? Are you ready to try out something new, take risks, and be your own boss? If you answered yes, then the Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is the perfect opportunity to do so! CBIC is a competition exclusively for UMBC students that awards up to $5,000 in cash prizes in BOTH the Technology and Innovation track AND the Social Impact track.
The Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is a unique opportunity for UMBC graduate and undergraduate students who are serious about starting a business or social impact venture. Participants will experience the process of planning a startup business by submitting a competitive and realistic 3-5 page business plan, which will be judged by members of the Baltimore Angels (real investors!). Qualifiers will present their ideas in a final competition, where cash prizes will be given out.
First Prize= $3,000
Second Prize = $2,000
Third Prize = $1,000
Cash prizes are available to the top 3 winners in both the Technology and Innovation track and the Social Impact Track.
After a 6-month review, an additional $2,000 is available to one of the top winners.
