I am writing to share a few resources you may find useful in your work with admitted international students. The first is a FAQ on COVID-19 vaccination requirements and protocols specifically as they relate to international students. The second resource is a slide deck from a recent fall forum for international students hosted by the Center for Global Engagement and the Graduate School. The slide deck contains answers and guidance to topics including registration, vaccination, visas, travel etc. In addition to these resources, you can find more presentations and resources for admitted international students including tips for the visa interview and entry process on our website here.

Dear Colleagues, 

You may be aware that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released updated guidance for international student immigration regulations for the academic year 2021-2022. In summary, the guidance that has been in effect since March 2020 will remain in effect throughout the duration of the 2021-2022 academic year. 

This means:

• Only F-1 international students who are joining UMBC for their first semester physically present in the U.S. are required to enroll in an in-person or hybrid course. 

• Any F-1 student who is continuing from a previous semester may enroll in an entirely online schedule of classes and maintain valid F-1 immigration status from within or outside the U.S. so long as they are enrolled in a full-time course load.

The Center for Global Education is working with our new and incoming international students to determine a close approximation of how many new students we should expect in the Fall 2021 semester. This information is being collected to aid departments in determining appropriate course offerings to allow international students to satisfy immigration requirements. We will share more information in the coming weeks and months as new students secure visas and make more definitive travel plans.

Hackathon – Embracing Neurodiversity

AstraZeneca and our friends at Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, Intel and ComputaCenter would like to invite you to take part in a 24 hour virtual hackathon.

On March 26^th, like minded university students will come together to try and build solutions to help people with neurodiversity navigate their daily challenges. 

Hear from our staff talking about what neurodiversity means to them and how they cope with the things they find difficult. 

All outputs will be open source and placed in GitHub so that anyone and everyone can benefit from the work done in the hack. 

You can build an app, write some code, design a process or create a physical device. Whatever helps you to help other people. 

Solutions that peak the interest of our judges could get the chance to work with our partners to develop the ideas further! 

The event is virtual and will run from 09:00 (26^th) to 09:00 (27^th) in your local timezone.
