<Title>Staffing Update from the ISSS team in the Center for Global</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>Dear Colleagues, </span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>I am writing to share an update regarding some recent changes to the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) team in the Center for Global Engagement (CGE). Many of you may be aware that Michelle Massey, the former Associate Director for International Student and Scholar Services has retired from UMBC and has accepted a position as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. Her last day at UMBC was June 17, 2021. </span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>I am pleased to announce that Dave Anguish has accepted the position of Acting Assistant Director. Dave has a wealth of experience and knowledge of international student and scholar services that will serve him well in this role. He has served as an International Student and Scholar Advisor at UMBC since 2015; prior to that Dave worked as Operations Coordinator in the Office of Undergraduate Admission &amp; Orientation. Please join me in congratulating Dave on his new position of leadership within the Center for Global Engagement. </span></p></span><span><p><span>In this role, Dave will assume many of the duties and responsibilities previously held by Michelle. If during this time you are uncertain whom you should contact for a specific question or concern, please do not hesitate to contact Dave and/or myself. <Title>Updated information for international students in Fall 2021</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>Dear Colleagues, </span></p><br><p><span>You may be aware that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released </span><a href="https://www.ice.gov/doclib/coronavirus/covid19faq.pdf" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>updated guidance</span></a><span> for international student immigration regulations for the academic year 2021-2022. In summary, the guidance that has been in effect since March 2020 will remain in effect throughout the duration of the 2021-2022 academic year. </span></p><br><p><span>This means:</span></p><ul><li><p><span>Only F-1 international students who are joining UMBC for their first semester physically present in the U.S. are required to enroll in an in-person or hybrid course. </span></p></li><li><p><span>Any F-1 student who is continuing from a previous semester may enroll in an entirely online schedule of classes and maintain valid F-1 immigration status from within or outside the U.S. so long as they are enrolled in a full-time course load.</span></p></li></ul><br><p><span>The Center for Global Education is working with our new and incoming international students to determine a close approximation of how many new students we should expect in the Fall 2021 semester. This information is being collected to aid departments in determining appropriate course offerings to allow international students to satisfy immigration requirements.     <div class="html-content"><p><strong>Please read on for details about this event shared by a UMBC alumni!</strong></p><p><strong><br></strong></p><p><strong>Information on Hackathon (Flyer attached)</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Hackathon – Embracing Neurodiversity</p><p><span>AstraZeneca and our friends at Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, Intel and ComputaCenter would like to invite you to take part in a 24 hour virtual hackathon.</span></p><p><span>On March 26<sup>th</sup>, like minded university students will come together to try and build solutions to help people with neurodiversity navigate their daily challenges. </span></p><p><span>Hear from our staff talking about what neurodiversity means to them and how they cope with the things they find difficult. </span></p><p><span>All outputs will be open source and placed in GitHub so that anyone and everyone can benefit from the work done in the hack. </span></p><p><span>You can build an app, write some code, design a process or create a physical device. This is </span><span>the first-ever 50</span><span><span>th</span></span><span> anniversary class gift at UMBC! </span><span> </span></p></div><div><p><span>.</span><span> </span></p></div><div><p><span>Donate to the Education Abroad Access Fund during UMBC’s Giving Day on February 24 - 25, 2021. The first 50 donors will unlock a $2,000 Giving Day challenge match. Future students value the ability to connect with both faculty and current students.
