NAFSA: Association of International Educators United Nations Member Interest Group is accepting applications for undergrad/ graduate students to work as a NAFSA youth representative at the UN. This is a volunteer unpaid position for students who are especially interested in global affairs/NGOs/higher education. NGO youth reps work in collaboration with 2 other NAFSA university designated representatives at the UN to help further the team's mission of fostering global citizens by providing opportunities for youth to engage with the UN's global agenda. This involves assisting the NAFSA UN team with organizing events to engage youth with the NGO/UN community, assisting with UN visits, attending high-level UN events, participating in International Day of Peace, UN Academic Impact Initiative events and more. In past, we have helped plan the UN's first International Education Day at the UN. Youth delegates will have a UN NGO badge to enter the UN and will have the best experiential learning opportunity to observe the work of the UN and its NGOs. 
Youth Reps will have an opportunity to:
  • Attend NGO briefings/events in NYC at the UN
  • Act as ambassadors for NAFSA and help support student groups other university visitors at the UN
  • Work 5-10 hours monthly (flexible) with the three NAFSA NGO
  • UN representatives to help with various UN related activities
  • Access to an e-learning course about the UN/NGOs

Qualifications:

  • Must be between 18- 32 years old (according to the UN General
  • Assembly definition of youth)
  • Enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program
  • Live in or close to New York City so that transportation to and from the UN is reasonable and manageable.

Students should apply as soon as possible by Feb 17th for first round consideration.

Not sure about your study abroad plans at this time?  You can still take this course as one of your GLBL electives, and it provides an excellent foundation in the cross-cultural competencies that will serve you well in your future travels.

This course is taught through an experiential learning framework, the goal of which is to enhance global competence skills and instill a spirit of civic engagement in Global Studies majors. The curriculum is aimed at the enhancement of global competency skills and the provision of knowledge and experience in advocacy work in a global-local community setting. 

Please note that this course will next be offered in Spring 2024, ifyou hope to graduate on or before next spring and do not have plans to go abroad in Fall 2023, it is strongly encouraged that you sign up for this course as a way of meeting the GLBL Global Experience requirement and will not delay your graduation.

Boren Scholarship Applications Open until Jan 30, 2023
The Boren Scholarship for Study Abroad, an initiative of the Defense Language and National Security Education Office, funds U.S. citizen undergraduates to study languages and cultures deemed critical to U.S. national security. Awards of up to $25,000 are available for programs lasting six months or longer. STEM students are eligible to apply for summer language study awards of up to $8000. 

Students can apply this money to study critical languages throughout the world for summer, semester and academic year programs. Special programs include the South Asian Flagship Languages Initiative for the study of Hindi/Urdu, the Turkish Flagship Language Initiative, the African Languages Flagship Initiative for study of the languages of sub-Saharan Africa, including advanced-level French, as well as the Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative.

The ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods offers more than $150,000 in student scholarships every year. Our goal is to remove financial barriers to participation in the ICPSR Summer Program and increase access to statistical methods training for students of all different backgrounds.

ICPSR scholarships provide fee waivers to attend our 2023 summer three-week sessions. The three-week sessions offer a foundational training in research methods, including computation, formal theory, basic statistics, and regression analysis, as well as specialized training in a diverse array of the most advanced, cutting-edge methodological techniques.

Eligibility

ICPSR scholarships are open to students in Sociology, Political Science, Public Policy, Education, and several other disciplines. Additionally, we offer diversity scholarships for graduate students from under-represented groups.

Application

We will begin accepting applications on December 5, 2022. All application materials must be submitted by Wednesday, February 1, 2023.
