Governor Hogan announced Farah Helal's appointment to the USM Board of Regents as a student regent in February and she was formally confirmed in March. She will serve as one of two USM student regents from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024, including as a voting member during her second year.

She will represent the USM student voice in meetings and committees working on issues that impact the system's twelve institutions. Key topics involve setting tuition and fee rates, approving new degree programs, and approving capital and operating budgets.

The Department of State is accepting internship applications for Fall 2022, applications are due 12 April- that's next Tuesday. If you are interested, start your application today!! For the first time these will be paid internship positions. 

 The program aims to provide student interns with opportunities both educationally and professionally substantive in nature. The purpose of the program is to provide students with insight into the work of U.S. foreign policy and the administration of the U.S. Department of State and its diplomatic facilities around the world. Specific duties and responsibilities vary according to the domestic office or overseas post of assignment. Generally, interns may: participate in meetings with senior-level U.S. Government or foreign government officials; draft, edit, or contribute to cables, reports, communications, talking points, or other materials used by policymakers in furthering U.S. foreign policy objectives; support events, including international and/or multilateral meetings and conferences; engage directly with U.S. audiences in helping to explain the work of the Department of State or foreign audiences in helping to promote U.S. foreign policy and improve understanding of U.S. culture and society.

The Louis L. Kaplan Scholarship is now accepting applications. 

This scholarship is awarded to deserving undergraduate students at UMBC who have achieved a minimum 3.0 grade point average, have junior or senior status, have made contributions to the community, and who demonstrate financial need.

The Louis L. Kaplan Scholarship was established November 24, 1981, by the Student Government Association at UMBC in recognition of Dr. Kaplan’s contributions to UMBC during his tenure as Interim Chancellor. It was Dr. Kaplan’s wish, when the fund was first established, that students who displayed academic promise be assisted financially in order to continue their education at UMBC.

Minimum eligibility requirements:

• Must be an undergraduate junior or senior student (60 minimum credits by Fall);
• Maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA; and
• Have made valuable contributions to the UMBC community.
  Demonstrate financial need (FAFSA) preferred.

Eligible candidates should submit:

• A current resume
• An unofficial UMBC transcript
• 1-3 letters of recommendation from a UMBC faculty or staff member
• A maximum 250-word written statement demonstrating significant contribution to the UMBC Campus Community
