I've just heard about an on-campus research opportunity for a CS undergrad. It isn't directly game development, but could provide some good experience and could be tailored a bit to the candidate (within the needs of the research project).
They are specifically looking for someone to do some CSS/HTML work on a web application that's using CSS, HTML, Angular, and d3 on the client side, and Postgres and Java Servlet on the server side. It'd start now, and could possibly be extended into the summer.
