<Title>Open Enrollment Period</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><strong>Open Enrollment for State of Maryland benefits will be
    online in the SPS Workday system from Tuesday, October 15, 2024, through
    Friday, November 8, 2024, at 5:00pm.</strong></p>
    
    <p>During this time, eligible employees can enroll, cancel, or
    make changes to their health benefits, with all changes becoming effective on
    January 1, 2025. Employees will receive alerts regarding Open Enrollment
    directly from the State of Maryland via the SPS Workday system.</p>
    
    <p>We will share Open Enrollment resources on the <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/payroll/posts/144094/7136/b5a2043f12b145a44470eee932c6cfe3/web/link?link=https%3A%2F%2Fhr.umbc.edu%2Fbenefits%2Fopen-enrollment%2F" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">HRSTM
    Open Enrollment website</a> as they become available from the State of
    Maryland. Resources will include virtual and in-person information sessions
    with the State vendors, State Wellness information, as well as the 2025 Rates
    and State Benefits Guide. </p>
    
    <p><strong>Open Enrollment will continue to be online in the SPS
    Workday system. </strong>Prior to the start of Open Enrollment, it is important
    for employees to login to their Workday account to ensure they have access, as
    their password may have expired. Instructions for logging into Workday and

    <div class="html-content"><div><p>Attention UMBC Accessibility Partners, Allies, and Ambassadors:</p><p>A quick reminder that on Wednesday October 16th at noon <a href="https://fm.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Facilities Management</a> and the <a href="https://accessibility.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Office of Accessibility and Disability Services</a> are presenting on recent, current and potential construction projects that enhance physical accessibility, improve the physical environment of UMBC, and benefit the entire community while supporting people with disabilities.   Get the latest info and expand our circle of allies-bring a friend or colleague, and share this information broadly.<br></p><p>Learn about accessible design within renovation and new construction, elevator replacement progress, and more! <Title>Doctoral Student Tutors- Please Share With Your Departments</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>The UMBC Writing Center continues to support writers on campus through a research-based, peer-to-peer model. Peer tutors, themselves students at UMBC, support the writing students do for courses and for fulfillment of their degree programs. We recognize that our center predominantly serves undergraduate writers, and we understand the many ways that these writers and their contexts differ substantially from those of graduate-level writers. </div><div><br></div><div>While some graduate writing support exists across programs at UMBC, more can be done to create an enduring network of mentorship through writing center programs. The writing centers at UMBC and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) have designed a pilot program to share resources for supporting the professional development and writing expertise of UMBC graduate writers. We need your help getting the word out to the students</div><div>who might want to work with us.</div><div><br></div><span>We are hiring UMBC graduate students, specifically doctoral students, to serve as Graduate Peer Writing Consultants (GPWCs). These GPWCs will tutor graduate writers at both UMBC and UMB, including those planning, writing, and revising theses and dissertations. GWCPs will undertake ongoing, rigorous training virtually and in-person at the UMB Writing Center in downtown Baltimore to develop their expertise in the practice and tutoring of advanced disciplinary writing. We have designed the position to accomplish three main</span><br><div>professional aims:</div><div><br></div><span>● support the work writers do for courses and for fulfillment of degree requirements</span><br><span>● provide peer-to-peer mentorship that enhances UMBC graduate students’</span><br><span>understanding and practice of advanced disciplinary writing</span><br><span>● lay a research-based foundation for GPWCs to develop as future writing educators and mentors in the academy and beyond.</span><br><div><br></div><div>Compensation starts at $17/hour, and all training is paid at this rate.
