<Title>Summer 2017 Construction Update</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><strong><span>Summer 2017
    Construction Update</span></strong><span></span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span>Over the next few
    weeks, several summer construction projects will be taking place on campus,
    which may impact pedestrian pathways and access to buildings. As always, be
    sure to follow directional signage at the construction site in order to
    navigate around these minor disruptions safely and effectively. Details of each
    project are below.</span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><strong><span>Biology Breezeway and
    University Center Reparations</span></strong><span></span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span>During the remainder
    of the month of June, crews will be working to resolve water intrusion issues
    at the Biology breezeway. The Breezeway between main campus and The Commons
    will remain closed through the end of June while work is completed. Please
    follow posted detour signage for access to the Biology building and surrounding
    campus buildings.</span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span>Beginning in late
    June, the walkway between UC and the Meyerhoff Chemistry building will be
    closed while crews work to renovate the pathway for improved stormwater
    drainage. Signs will be posted to direct pedestrians to alternative routes.
    Work is scheduled for completion by the second week of July.</span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><strong><span>Library Pond Test
    Wells</span></strong><span></span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span>Beginning Monday,
    June 19 and continuing through the week of June 26, test wells will
    be installed to monitor ground water levels around the pond. Drilling of one well
    will require equipment operating on the sidewalk in front of the pond.  Safety devices and signs will be placed
    around the activity area to guide pedestrians.</span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span>Please visit our

<Title>Parking/Construction Update for Event Center and ILSB</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>The new UMBC Event Center Project Team will be making improvements along the east side of Hilltop Circle adjacent to the construction site and at the open space between Parking Lot 1 and Commons Drive. On or about June 8, the parking spaces and sidewalk on the east side of Hilltop Circle will be closed so that the sidewalk and curb there may be lowered to accommodate temporary accessible parking that will support events at the new Event Center. This work will take approximately 45 days.</div><div><br></div><div>On or about June 8, the parking spaces on the east side of Parking Lot 1 will be closed to provide access to the contractor to build three Storm Water Management Ponds in the green space between Commons Drive and Parking Lot 1. These spaces will be closed for approximately 45 days.</div><div><br></div><div>As a reminder, <a href="http://my.umbc.edu/groups/parking/posts/68348" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">summer crossover parking</a> is in effect which provides community members with several convenient parking options.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div></div>

<Title>Upcoming Commons Drive &amp; Commons Circle Utility Work</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>On
    Monday, June 5<sup>th,</sup> 2017 contractors working on the ILSB building
    will be installing a new water line outside of the construction fence currently
    in place. Although the work will take place in the roadway, Commons Drive,
    Commons Circle and the Physics loading dock will remain open </span><span>for service and delivery vehicles only</span><span>. </span><span>The contractor will have personnel in place to direct vehicles through
    the affected areas during work hours. The area will be returned to it’s current
    state after each work day</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>The work
    will commence on June 5<sup>th</sup> on Commons Drive, near the Physics
    Building loading dock entrance road and continue through June 6<sup>th</sup>.
    The contractors will only close half of the road each day to allow access to
    Commons Circle for service vehicles and deliveries.</span><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Between
    June 7<sup>th</sup> and June 14<sup>th</sup>, work will move inside the
    construction fence. Access for service vehicles and deliveries will not be
    affected.</span><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Starting
    on June 15<sup>th</sup> and continuing through June 26<sup>th</sup>, the
    work will once again move outside of the fence at the intersection of Commons
    Drive and Commons Circle. Access for service vehicles and deliveries will be
    maintained during this time but traffic patterns will be altered to accommodate
    excavation through the roadway.</span><span></span></p>

<Title>Math &amp; Psychology Building Entrance Closure</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>Please be advised that the
    lower-level north entrance to the Math &amp; Psychology Building will be
    temporarily closed due to adjacent construction activities. This closure
    will allow for a new exterior stair and utility connections to be built as part
    of the ILSB project. The entrance will close on approximately June
    5th, 2017 and remain closed for a period of about 4 weeks. The entrance
    will re-open on approximately July 3rd, 2017. </span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Accessible routes
    to and through the Math &amp; Psychology building will not be affected.
    Emergency egress from the building has been reviewed with the UMBC Fire
    Marshal. Posted building emergency egress plans will be updated and exit signs
    will be modified as necessary to reflect the temporary changes.</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Beginning the week
    of 5/30/2017, Facilities Management will post signs alerting pedestrians
    of the closure and directing them around it. The signs will remain posted
    until the entrance reopens in July. About the same time, an additional message
    will be sent to all building occupants alerting them of the closure.</span></p>

<Title>Upcoming Tree Care Work</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>On Saturday, November 26<sup>th</sup>, Facilities
    Management will be performing tree care work, with the assistance of tree
    surgeons, to existing trees located at the south west corner of the Biology
    building. <s></s></p>
    
    <p>The work will take place starting at 8 AM and conclude about
    6 PM. Although not anticipated at this time, work may commence again the
    following day, Sunday November 27<sup>th</sup> at 8 AM. Access to this area
    will be limited during this time. The exterior stair between the Biology and
    Math/Psychology Buildings and the walkway between the Biology and Meyerhoff
    Chemistry Building will be closed to pedestrian traffic during operations.</p>
    
    <p>Occupants of adjacent buildings can anticipate the presence
    of machinery noise during these work hours. Adjacent building facades will be
    protected from soil and debris created by the work. The area will be restored
    to existing conditions after completion of the work.</p>

<Title>New Campus Entrance: Updated Traffic and Pedestrian Patterns</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><span>After more than a year of planning and construction, we are pleased to announce the Campus Entrance project is nearly complete. The pick-up and drop-off circle with access to Administration Garage is now open, and the new UMBC Blvd. entrance and exit traffic circles and pathways are fully operational. We encourage the campus community to begin using these new spaces and routes.</span></div><div><br></div><div>As you return to campus from your summer break, please be aware of significant changes in traffic and pedestrian patterns. In the interest of safety, we ask that you pay particular attention to signage and right-of-way when entering and leaving campus.</div><div><br></div><div>Additional work on the campus entrance will take place through September and early October, where crews will finish the remainder of walkways, plantings, and fixtures and permanent signage.</div><div><br></div><div>This project has had a substantial impact on our campus community throughout its construction, and we thank all of you for your patience and flexibility during the development of a new Campus Entrance that reflects the growth, innovation, and creativity of our university.</div><div><br></div><div>As always, we encourage you to <a href="http://my.umbc.edu/groups/fm/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">follow our myUMBC group</a> to receive news and updates and stay apprised of how construction projects across campus may impact you.</div></div>

<Title>Upcoming Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Pattern Changes</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Beginning Tuesday, June 2, and continuing through Sunday, June 7, extensive work on UMBC Blvd. will require us to close sections of the road and Hilltop circle in order to finish paving, painting, and signage. <strong>We strongly recommend the campus community use alternate routes, such as Hilltop Rd., Walker Ave., and Poplar Ave. when entering and exiting campus.</strong></div><div><br></div><div>Throughout the week, the outbound lanes of UMBC Blvd. will remain closed. Be advised, you will not be able to use UMBC Blvd. to access I-195. Please follow detour signs to exit campus using Wilkens Ave., Rolling Road, and Shelbourne Rd.</div><div><br></div><div>During this phase of the construction, traffic patterns on Hilltop Circle and the new traffic circle will change frequently. Please pay close attention to traffic and detour signs when traveling Hilltop Circle and UMBC Blvd.</div><div><br></div><div>Also, note that <strong>all permit parking on the inner and outer loop between the stop sign by the Performing Arts &amp; Humanities Building and Administration Dr. will be closed through June 7</strong>. We remind you that during the summer session all zone A parking areas are accessible to faculty and staff. <Title>Open Forum on Campus Construction Projects (5/1)</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Facilities Management will be providing an open forum to provide details about all upcoming and ongoing campus construction projects. <strong>The open forum will be held in ITE Room 104 (Lecture Hall 7) from 12-12:50 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2015</strong>.</div><div><br></div><div>The projects to be discussed affect the entire campus population and will be of interest to the majority of staff, faculty and students on campus.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>The New Campus Entrance</strong></div><div>This project alters the intersections at UMBC Blvd., Research Park Drive, and Hilltop Circle to incorporate traffic circles for improved safety and better traffic flow. Pedestrian plazas adjacent to the RAC and Admin Building are being improved, as well.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>PAHB Stormwater Facility (Pond) Renovation</strong></div><div>This project performs upgrades to enhance the function and appearance of the pond. The perimeter walls will be replaced, the pond deepened, and the landscape upgraded to provide a more functional stormwater runoff, as well as a more pleasing gathering space.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>The Fine Arts Building Renovation</strong></div><div>This project renovates space vacated by departments relocating into the new Performing Arts and Humanities Building. The upper floors of the north and south wings will be renovated to accommodate other departments and building systems will be updated for more efficient operation.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Apartment Renovations</strong></div><div>This project renovates West Hills Apartments, the last phase of renovation of the apartment complexes. Hillside and Terrace Apartments were completed in previous phases.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>The Event Center</strong></div><div>The Event Center and Arena is proposed to be approximately 162,000 gross sq. ft. The center will be a multipurpose event facility to host a variety of revenue and non-revenue generating activities that serve both the University and local community needs. The facility will also serve as the home for the Athletic Department and the varsity basketball and volleyball programs. The project site is located along the east side of Hilltop Circle, opposite Commons Drive.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building</strong></div><div>This project will seamlessly connect teaching and research activities to enhance and stimulate collaborative approaches to advance the State's biotechnology industry and increase the number of STEM graduates. The building, located on the site of the Academic Services Building, will provide approximately 131,000 gross sq. ft. of flexible and adaptable research and education spaces to support current and future interdisciplinary life science programs.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Administration Building Green Roof</strong></div><div>The France-Merrick Foundation has provided a grant to support building a vegetated roofing system/green roof on the Administration Building. This project will illustrate the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Although access to the roof will be limited, it will provide additional opportunities for academic research, teaching and learning.</div><div><br></div><div>Thank you for your participation in this information sharing opportunity.</div></div>
