<Title>Join the First-Generation Peer Mentoring Program!</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>Greetings! </span></p><br><p><span>Welcome to UMBC! We are incredibly excited to welcome you to Retriever Nation and look forward to connecting with you in the very near future. The First-Generation Peer Mentoring Program (FGPMP) is accepting applicants for the Fall 2021 semester. As a first-gen mentee or mentor, you will be paired with a student that identifies as a first-generation student and have an opportunity to participate in a variety of events and programming designed specifically around your experience. This program is a great opportunity to make connections with other first-generation students and to become more familiar with different UMBC resources.</span></p><br><p><span>If you’re interested in taking part in the First-Generation Peer Mentoring Program, </span><a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeH7B-oBnwjfPqt8aWx0h_yWdhGHnCUsU4OT-hrdoxitquCHg/viewform?usp=sf_link" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>please fill out this form</span></a><span>. We will pair mentees and mentors according to mutual interests, area of study, and the number of students that sign up for the program. The <a href="https://umbc.transloc.com/info/mobile" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">app</a> is also used to send updates and messages to the ridership.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Health and Safety</strong></p><p>UMBC’s COVID19 safety protocols are in effect aboard buses and at bus stops. At this time, facial masking will still be required aboard buses and at stops.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Your ID is Your Ticket to Ride</strong></p><p>Your campus ID is required to be presented and swiped upon boarding. You will be swiping your card to validate enrollment and to create a ridership report per route. It opens up prospects of financial security and career mobility I could only have dreamed of. My entire journey has shown me just how powerful an education can be. I would like to thank Dr. Steve Storck, an alumni of UMBC. Interactions were few and far between; through SAE Baja and on tour of JHU's Applied Physics Laboratory. However, each interaction was either inspiring or thought-provoking. Tidbits of guidance that continue to stick with me — especially now, as I set out for fulfilling work in the sciences.</div><div><br></div><div>Post-Grad Plans: I will continue search for employment in industry.</div><div><br></div><div><strong><u>Grace Jones - B.A. in Biological Sciences and Gender Women's Studies, Minor in Psychology</u></strong></div><div><br></div><div>

Might even mess around and get another bachelor. But a gap year for now, Lord knows I need it!</div><div><br></div><div><strong><u>Jasmine Bonilla - Mechanical Engineering</u></strong></div><div><br></div><div><img src="https://firstgen.umbc.edu/files/2021/05/DB08CEAF-EF73-497F-962D-93648A359D65-Jasmine-Bonilla-225x300.jpeg" alt="" width="225" height="300" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></div><div><br></div><div>Being a first gen college student means that I was able to carry out the dreams of both my immigrant parents when they came to this country against all odds. I am extremely blessed. My mother supported me in completing my degree. She brought me home cooked meals to campus when I had limited time to cook for myself, and always gave me the push that I needed when I felt like I wanted to give up. I love her so much. </div><div><br></div><div>Post-Grad Plans: I plan to work as a Pathways Engineer at Northrop Grumman.</div><div><br></div><div><strong><u>Vivi Tran - B.S. in Biological Sciences, Minor in Management of Aging Services</u></strong></div><div><br></div><div>

Adam Mendelson specifically, who has been helping me and being a mentor for me since I was a senior in High School. I've taken classes with him, worked on projects with him, and spent hours of meetings with him. He's helped me refine my design process and taught me something new every single time I've seen him.</div><div><br></div><div>Post-Grad Plans: In the Fall of 2022 I plan to continue my studies in theatre by going to graduate school for an M.F.A in Lighting Design.</div><div><br></div><div><strong><u>Jenifer Gomez - B.S. in Psychology and Philosophy</u></strong></div><div><br></div><div>

To all my Philosophy profs who have not only taught me everything I know but have inspired me to continue my career.
