Meetings This Week! Bootcamp, Project Meeting, and Work Session

Hey all,


We hope you've had some time to enjoy the snow over the past couple weeks! As a reminder, we are having three separate meetings this week; all members are welcome so feel free to join if you are able.


Our first meeting for the week is another Bootcamp session. The theme for this session is Project Background, so if you're unfamiliar with our current project or want to know more about how the project has evolved over the years, we'd be happy to have you in attendance. The Bootcamp session will be at 12pm on Wednesday (2/24), on our Discord server.


Our second meeting is our February Project Meeting with our mentoring team. We will be updating them on the progress we've made over the past month and getting their input on the project. This meeting is on Thursday (2/25) from 4-5pm, and will take place on Google Hangouts.


Our final meeting for this week is an informal Work Session. We're trying our best to submit our Implementation Report by the end of this month, so any help with that is greatly appreciated! This meeting will be on Friday (2/26) from 1-2pm, also on our Discord server.

Boot Camp Tomorrow (2/17) and Work Session Friday (2/19) Hey all,

We have a couple meetings this week, so feel free to join us on Discord if you are available! The first is a Boot Camp on Wednesday (2/17) at noon, we will be going over EWB-USA and the Project Process, so this meeting is perfect for new members who want to become more involved with EWB-UMBC! The second meeting we have lined up for this week is a Work Session on Friday (2/19) from 1pm-2pm. We are working to get our Implementation Report submitted before the end of this month, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Finally, we would just like to give a quick congratulations to our new Fundraising Chair, Thomas Ajala! Our runner-up, Celine Brundridge, will be taking over Thomas's position as First Year Representative for the remainder of the Spring 2021 semester. Congrats to you both! :-)

Help us reach our fundraising goal of $5,000! Hey all,

Our Gritstarter is officially up and running, from now until the end of February! For those that might not know what Gritstarter is, it's a fundraising platform through UMBC that we are using to raise money for our chapter. Our goal is to reach $5,000 in donations in order to fund construction and material costs for the San Rafael community's water system, as well as travel for participating students (when permissible), and other resources that the project team may require.

If you are able to donate, we greatly appreciate it! If not, please take the time to forward our Gritstarter to friends and family who might be interested in supporting our project.

Thanks to everyone who filled out the when2meet with your availability! It looks like 12-1pm on Wednesdays is when the most people are available, so that is when we will hold our weekly meetings. 

We will have the same schedule format as last semester (detailed here). We will have our first GBM next Wednesday, February 10th 12-1pm. The next three weeks we will hold Boot Camp, which is our training sessions about our water supply project in Costa Rica so that newer members can be brought up to speed. After Boot Camp, we will be alternating work sessions and GBMs, with GBMs being every 3rd week. As we do not want to wait a month to start work sessions, we will hold them on Fridays 1-2pm for now, starting this week (Feb 5th) up until the end of Boot Camp. 

These meetings will all be held on our Discord. GBMs and Boot Camp will be in the "Meeting Hall" under the General Body Meeting tab. Work sessions will start under the "General Work Session" tab, then split into groups. 

We will also have project meetings with our mentors around once a month, and we will make a separate post with the dates for each one as they are determined.

-->For our water supply system project, we will preparing for construction of the chlorinator & metering system. Our focus will be finishing the implementation report and the related logistics for remote construction. We also are finalizing an partnership with a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Costa Rica, so if you are interested in international communication and/or speak Spanish we will be doing work in this area as well.
