<Title>Caregiving Committee Final Report</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>After fifteen months of remote work for much of UMBC’s staff, we are preparing to return to campus. The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the notion of work culture and what productivity looks like, including what we can do to create a holistic and supportive workplace, particularly for those employees who have dual roles as caregivers.</div><div><br></div><div>The UMBC Professional Staff Senate designated a Caregiving Committee, who in turn developed a survey and collected responses from a broad cross-section of UMBC staff. The survey gathered quantitative and qualitative data regarding productivity, mental and physical health during the pandemic, work-life balance, and staff attitudes regarding an array of potential benefits that would support caregivers returning to campus.</div><div> </div><div><strong><a href="https://umbc.box.com/s/vhywd08qvslpaorxp258wjqfjlckjcm6" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Click Here to Access the Final Report</a></strong></div><div><br></div><div>This is an opportunity to leverage what our community has learned during the pandemic to address challenges around accessibility, child care/elder care responsibilities, mental health, and chronic illness/disability, with the goal of creating a workplace that is more accessible, flexible and responsive to the needs of staff, and consistent with UMBC values.</div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><p><a href="https://www.usmd.edu/training-and-development/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">USM Professional Development (PD) week</a> is the first virtual conference hosted by the USM Training Committee, a group of talent development professionals representing each of the USM schools. PD week is a knowledge-building week for USM faculty and staff. The conference workshops are designed to broaden and advance the employee’s professional and personal well-being. Throughout the week, you will have the opportunity to network with other USM employees. PD is a one-of-its-kind event—register to reserve your seat next to other higher education professionals.</p><p>USM training and development professionals and leaders will facilitate sessions to:</p><ul><li>Broaden perspectives to leverage knowledge, skills, and abilities</li><li>Acquire competencies to advance work performance and productivity</li><li>Engage in diverse conversations to handle the transitioning workplace</li></ul><hr><h2>Registration instructions:</h2><ul><li><span>June 7th and 11th</span> events require separate registration via Zoom to participate. Please note that there is very limited registration as noted under each event. When we outwardly share our lived experiences of our values, we realize a sense of collective identity and belonging that is powerful, palpable, and vital in promoting a thriving workplace culture.</p><p>In 2020, we recruited a second cohort of eight faculty and staff, this time focusing on the four values themes: <strong>Reach Together, Claim Your Future, Extend Beyond, Explore Every Angle.</strong> The program adapted to remote work and moved the 13-week leadership and speaker development program successfully online. <strong>We look forward to seeing you on June 2nd from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. for the Youtube live event! The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged many notions of work culture and how we work, including what we can do to create a holistic and supportive workplace, particularly for those who are caregivers.<br><br>The PSS <span>Caregiving</span> Committee has developed a definition of <span>caregiving</span> that is inclusive of <strong>those who provide <span>care</span> to another person, as well as those with chronic illnesses, disabilities, or other situations that require increased levels of <span>caring</span> for oneself.</strong><br><br>This committee with the support of the Professional Staff Senate has created a <strong>Caregiver Feedback <span>Survey</span> to better understand staff needs when it comes to the “return to work” process and the future of work that are consistent with our <span><u><a href="https://styleguide.umbc.edu/what-makes-us-umbc/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">UMBC values</a></u></span>.</strong><br> </td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table><table border="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td><table border="0"><tbody><tr><td><span><strong><a href="https://umbc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8bGaLpzqo0Xb1jg" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Click Here to Access the </a></strong></span><span><a href="https://umbc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8bGaLpzqo0Xb1jg" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Survey</a></span></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table><table border="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td><table border="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td>Because this <span>survey</span> gathers sensitive information, <strong>please be assured that every effort has been made to maintain your privacy and confidentiality. <Title>Remote Work/Return to Work Survey</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>The purpose of this survey is to gather input from staff across all USM institutions related to two specific areas: remote work and return to work. One goal is to better understand the experiences of staff engaging in remote work over the past year, as well as to learn more about the experiences of staff who remained on campus during the pandemic. Another goal is to collect input from staff as campuses prepare for return to work during the upcoming summer/fall semesters. </span><br><br><span>Results from this survey will be kept anonymous by institution and will be shared with the Chancellor of the USM as well as each of the Presidents of each institution. </span><br><br><span>The survey can be completed by any exempt or non-exempt staff member at all 12 institutions and all 3 regional centers within the USM.
