All staff are invited to attend our monthly PSS meeting this Thursday, 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, with special guest, President Valerie Sheares Ashby!

With the onset of August, Retriever Essentials has seen a tremendous increase in demand which has left the supplies in our pantry and storage dangerously low.  We are in desperate need of restocking our shelves so we can continue to serve our students in need. 

Please see the below list of our most needed items at this time. Please consider making a donation, particularly items in Red and Orange. Please email us at retrieveressentials@umbc.edu so our team can coordinate a designated time for you to drop off donations. 

You can also support us by making a financial contribution to allow us to supplement our supply with purchased items from our local stores. Details can be found below.

Annual virtual parking permits for faculty and staff expire at the end of August each year. We ask that all faculty and staff visit the UMBC Parking Services Portal to verify your vehicle information is correct and to update it if needed. Failure to obtain a valid permit for the 2022 – 2023 academic year will result in a citation.

UMBC has decided to participate in The Baltimore Sun Top Workplaces program, which identifies and compares top places to work in the Baltimore metropolitan area, based solely on the opinions of employees.

 

Beginning this week, you will receive an email with a link to the online survey. The survey, conducted by Energage, an independent research company, should take about five minutes to complete. Energage will keep your responses confidential; however, certain members of the UMBC community will have access to the optional written comments on the survey. If you wish to remain completely anonymous, please do not submit any optional written comments that could identify you individually.

Join Retriever Integrated Health on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM as they host a virtual workshop to help faculty and staff identify the signs of mental health distress, provide strategies to support students in need, and connect students to available on-campus and off-campus resources.

Please RSVP on the myUMBC event. Those who RSVP will receive the link via email to join the virtual workshop.

Zero Waste is typically defined as less than 10% of waste being disposed of as trash (meaning lots of recycling and composting). 

This guide will take you through all the steps to make your on-campus events as sustainable as possible--with guidelines on how to request compost bins for your event, tips on purchasing compostable dishware, and ideas to make your event as sustainable as possible.

Check out the full guide, and if you do plan a Zero Waste event, let us know! We want to get feedback on how this could be more useful to you as you plan events on campus. 

Sign up for one or more shifts to serve at our welcome wagon tables at various locations around campus from August 31st-September 2nd. 

The tables will be located under a pop-up tent and will have information, maps, and giveaway items for students. We are hoping that you can be one of the first smiling faces they see on their first day of class!
