[Repost] Thrive On: Is What’s On Your Plate Nourishing You?
Join for dinner and good conversation
On Thursday, November 20, the Center for Democracy and Civic Life will host Thrive On, an engaging, facilitated conversation that will connect you with other members of the UMBC community.
Our conversations will be focused on two interrelated questions:
"How do you live your values in community?"
"How do you live a life that sustains you?"
We will explore challenges with thriving, share resources to support thriving, and generate ideas about how we, as a UMBC community, can improve thriving on campus.
This program, as a part of UMBC Thrive Fest 2025, will take place on November 20, 2025 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the University Center, UC 312. A catered dinner will be provided.
This program is a collaboration between the Center for Democracy and Civic Life's Dinner with Friends program and Student Belonging.

Make any changes before open enrollment ends on Friday
With open enrollment ending on Friday, it is important that staff are aware that United Healthcare will no longer cover costs for services rendered by Johns Hopkins Medicine and Capital Women's Care as in-network providers.
If you receive services from either of these medical care providers you may want to choose a different health care insurance company for your coverage.

Green Dot Training Opporuntiy
Help reduce power-based personal violence
Since 2012, the Division of Student Affairs has been at the vanguard of preventing power-based personal violence in our community through the Green Dot Bystander Intervention training program. The goal is to reduce power-based personal violence by giving bystanders the skills to intervene safely and effectively to prevent sexual assault, stalking, and relationship violence. The number of reports of sexual violence happening on and near campus are high. What if we could reduce the number of incidents by 10% or 20% or more? Now is a more important time than ever to lean into prevention.
There is a Green Dot training scheduled as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, this
Friday, October 31 from 1:00-4:00 PM in Commons 329. If you have never been to a Green Dot training or would like a refresher, maybe now is the time! Green Dot training is experiential (not boring) and will move you to action.
If you attend the Green Dot training and complete a few steps afterwards, you can earn a Green Dot badge! Electronic badges are credentials that you can attach to LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook to show others your commitment to reducing power-based personal violence. And our training has snacks (on Halloween, the snacks will be treats, not tricks)! We hope you will consider registering for this Green Dot Bystander Intervention training at the link above.

November 3rd with our new travel solution, SAP Concur! We are pleased to announce our schedule for training during the initial launch. To sign up for any of these training sessions visit the Travel Group on myUMBC.
Training Schedule
Concur Orientation – A high-level overview of the full travel process from start to finish including a discussion of the apps available providing access to your information anywhere you are.
Policy Training – Explains the UMBC interim travel policy and the reasons behind the policies.
Arranger Training – (Formerly "Preparers") For admins arranging travel on behalf of others, such as guests, students, faculty, or staff.
Approver Training – A step-by-step walkthrough of the approval process from the approver's perspective.
Traveler + Arranger Training – Geared toward travelers, with arrangers encouraged to stay for the final portion specific to their role.
DID YOU KNOW?
The SAP Concur mobile app is available for smartphones to manage business expenses, travel, and invoices on the go.
We'll tell you more about this benefit in the Orientation Training, as well as future launch communications.
Do you have an idea for a class, program, or project to help UMBC community members (including students) engage in social change? Need some funding to make it real?
The BreakingGround initiative provides grants of up to $2,500 to UMBC faculty, staff, and students who want to launch or strengthen educational and community-building projects. These projects should, as a part of their work, foster civic agency: the ability to initiate and make meaningful contributions to social change.
Funding can be used flexibly. Past awardees have supported:
Experiential learning opportunities that immerse learners in real-world problem solving.
Collaborative research projects with students and community partners.
Major redesigns of existing courses to center civic agency and engagement.
Connections with social changemakers and local communities.
Explore examples of previous projects.

P.A.W. Circle Initiative to Empower Staff/Faculty Philanthropy
The office of Institutional Advancement is pleased to announce the launch of the P.A.W. Circle to recognize the staff and faculty dedication to our students that sets UMBC apart from other institutions. P.A.W. stands for Philanthropy At Work, and it is a community of faculty and staff donors who make the decision to go a step further in supporting our students.
When you make a financial contribution to any area on campus, it directly provides scholarships and academic resources, supports student life, fuels groundbreaking research, and strengthens our entire university community.
