Calling all Leaders! UMBC's LEAP Academy
UMBC's LEAP Academy is a 5-month leadership development experience designed to provide the critical professional competencies and people skills that new people managers need to be effective at leading others and teams. This program is also appropriate for existing supervisors who need a tune-up on today's critical foundational managerial competencies to better support their team.
This cohort-style program (3 separate 20-person cohorts) will be delivered in a hybrid format with live in-person instructional sessions and virtual team coaching sessions. Participants will also receive an All-Access Pass to FranklinCovey's Impact Portal where they will have access to additional resources.
Applications for the cohort are due June 14. The program will kick off on August 19, 2024 and continue through the fall semester. Click here for more information and a program overview.

Apply to run for a position in shared governance!
Applications for the Professional Staff Senate (PSS) and Council of University System Staff (CUSS) are now being solicited. Meet folks from across campus and make a difference at UMBC for yourself and your colleagues!
Nominees must be exempt staff employees employed at UMBC for at least one year (hired on or before 4/17/2023). Nominations are open through Monday, April 14.

What is the Professional Staff Senate (PSS)? We represent you! We are the official representative body of professional, or exempt, staff employed at UMBC. What do we do? We provide a forum for discussing issues involving or of interest to exempt staff members, such as academic and administrative policies. Some of these topics have included work-life balance, campus climate, employee benefits, and state budget updates and impacts. We work diligently to maintain and contribute to community life at UMBC by organizing events for staff and volunteering for non-PSS sponsored events. Each member serves on selected subcommittees of their choosing regarding certain policies or procedures.
What is the Council of University System Staff (CUSS)? Staff serving on the Council represent all staff at UMBC at the system-level. Council representatives and alternates report to the Chancellor and Presidents and share staff concerns across the University System of Maryland (USM). UMBC will have 6 CUSS members including 3 Representatives (2 Exempt & 1 Non-Exempt) and 3 Alternates (2 Exempt & 1 Non-Exempt). Spring Break Retriever Soccer Academy
Discount for UMBC Faculty & Staff!
UMBC Men's Soccer is hosting a Spring Break Soccer Camp for kids aged 6-13!
Date: March 25-29th 2024
Times: 9am-3pm (Half Day Option of 9am-12pm)
Check In: 8:30AM on Day 1 at UMBC Fields 1 + 2 (grass soccer complex)
All kids ages 6-13 of any gender are welcome!
FRIDAY WILL ONLY BE A HALF DAY FROM 9am-12pm!
**Camp t-shirt is included within the registration fee.
The Camp is designed for players ages 6-13 to work on and improve their game in a positive and fun environment. Whether you are a new or experienced player, this camp will give you a chance to have fun while becoming a better soccer player!

The Career Center Team extends our deepest gratitude for your overwhelming support and contribution to our Professional Clothing Closet Drive. In total, we collected approximately 1600 clothing items, and what's truly remarkable is that nearly 1000 of those items came directly from our University community!
On April 2nd and April 3rd, our students will have access to one complete professional outfit, largely thanks to our UMBC Community's unwavering support.
We invite you to show your continued support for this worthy cause by helping us set up our Clothing Closet or supporting us during the event. We need volunteers from April 1st through April 4th to assist with setting up the closet, helping students select items and check out, and cleaning up the closet. Volunteer slots are just one hour!

- Free meal. Enjoy a complimentary food and beverage at the Skylight Room during the session
- Space is limited. There are only 15 spaces for the focus group session.

SGA Elections: Nominate an Undergraduate
The Student Government Association (SGA) Election Board and Campus Life are excited to share that the SGA Election season is underway! They invite you to nominate undergraduate students that:
- you think would be a great addition to SGA or
- that you know have been toying with the idea of running for office in the upcoming SGA elections
Sometimes all someone needs to be able to see themselves in a role is knowing that someone else also sees them with the capacity to be in that role.
Nominations are due March 20th, 2024 so that there is time to reach out to students to let them know they were nominated before the application deadline.

Restorative Practices Training March 21 & 22
Student Conduct and Community Standards has a Building Campus Community two-day, face-to-face restorative practices workshop (our 15th iteration!) coming up over Spring Break. We are purposeful in terms of trying to offer the training during times in the academic calendar that would permit undergraduate students to participate. The workshop is
Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22 in the Apartment Community Center
There is no charge for UMBC affiliates, but we ask that non-UMBC folks purchase tickets that cover the cost of their meals and training supplies. More information is available

Since 2015, we have trained over 500 faculty, staff, and students in restorative practices. These techniques are useful to managing conflict and repairing harm in classrooms, workplaces, residence halls, and family systems. You won't regret the investment of two days to participate in this workshop. We hope to see you in a couple weeks! Even if you can't attend, please pass the word to a colleague. There are about 15 seats remaining.
