This annual observance was first introduced by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation on January 17th, 2017 and has been celebrated every year since. The goal of the day is to promote racial healing and equity through collective action. To learn more, visit https://healourcommunities.org/about/

As a Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Campus Center, we are honoring the day by welcoming you to join our letter writing campaign regarding the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT) Congressional Resolution, also known as S. Con. Res. 50. Introduced by Senator Cory Booker, this concurrent resolution calls for the establishment of a United States Commission on Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT).

Through our letter writing campaign, we encourage you to voice your thoughts on the TRHT resolution by writing letters to your senators. During the first hour of the event, you will have the chance to learn more about the resolution as well as the TRHT work that is happening on campus and in the surrounding community. The last 30 minutes will be an optional space for you to work through the thoughts and experiences that you would like to include in your letter with the facilitators.

We hope to see you there!

National Day of Racial Healing

Letter Writing Campaign

Tuesday, January 19th, 2021

12:30-2pm

via Webex

To join the event, please use the Webex link below:

Join Webex meeting

ID: 1203608224

Password: vErMW6MP

(US) +1 202-860-2110 (toll)

Access code: 120 360 822 4

1203608224@umbc.webex.com

For more info, contact or Briscoe Turner at bris2@umbc.edu or Frank Anderson at afrank3@umbc.edu. See the attached flyer!

In 2017, the Shriver Center received funding from American Association of Colleges and Universities to create a Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Campus Center.
National Coming Out Day

<Tagline>October 11, 2020</Tagline>

National Coming Out Day is an annual awareness day observed on October 11 to support LGBTQ+ people who "come out" -- when an individual decides to publicly share their gender identities or sexual orientation. First celebrated in the United States in 1988, the initial idea was grounded in the feminist and gay liberation spirit of coming out to family, friends, allies and the community. October 11 coincides with the Second National March on Washington for Gay and Lesbian Rights. October is also LGBTQ+ History Month.

LGBTQ+-Centered Orgs

Undergraduate Student Orgs

LGBTQ Student Union (LSU) | myUMBC | IG: @umbclgbtq

Queer People of Color at UMBC (QPOC)| myUMBC | IG: @qpoc_umbc

Faculty Staff Orgs

LGBTQ Faculty & Staff Association (LGBTQ FSA) | myUMBC

LGBTQ FSA OutList

You can subscribe to OEI's Diversity Awareness calendar here.
