Have you heard about Global Brigades?
It is a large student organization focused on
community growth. They are planning a spring brigade to Panama during
Spring Break 2015. There are five different chapters this year under
Global Brigades: Medical/Public Health, Microfinance, Dental,
Water/Engineering, and Human Rights. They are a part of the Microfinance
Chapter, which has just recently begun.
The purpose of our organization is to go to Panama and set up a community
bank for local rural community residents of Panama. They want to give these
community members a chance to develop a culture of savings and growth.
Throughout the entire theyek of Spring break they will be shadowing bankers and
learning about the entire process of setting up a community bank, how the
community members will gain access to loans, and meeting the local
residents of Panama.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to have a learning experience
away from the classroom, and it is all for a great cause. They are going to
be trying our very best to promote this program as much as possible to gain
new membership. For prospective members here are some dates to keep in mind:
- September 3rd, Involvement Fest from 12-3
-
September 3rd, Microfinance Pulsera Sale from 12-3
(in the Commons Breezeway) - September 8th, Microfinance Information Session, Location TBA
- September 19th, Global Brigades General Meeting, Lecture Hall 6: Physics 101
Their membership form is also available now for all prospective members. This is a requirement for those who would like to participate in our program. Everyone who completes a form will be considered a member of our chapter
