First ABCE Workshop of Spring Semester TODAY!
Join us with John Kirby at noon to learn about Start-Ups!
Presenter: John Kirby
Date: TODAY! February 17, 12 - 1pm
Location: This workshop will be held virtually.
This workshop will cover all funding sources for seed and early stage
companies from idea to acquisition. It will also include crowdfunding,
specifically GoFundMe and Kickstarter. Don’t miss it!
A little bit about John Kirby:
John has worked the majority of his business career as an entrepreneur in
small and midsize companies. Along the way, he founded and sold two
companies. A highlight was the sale of reachNET, a company he co-founded.
The company developed a wireless TTY for the deaf community and was sold
in 2001 to Telecommunication Systems (NASDAQ: TSYS).
He and his teams have mentored tech companies, been involved in tech
transfer from government and education to the private sector and assisted
veteran-led companies. John’s current company is Boat School Ventures,
which mentors and raises capital for early stage startups. He is also an
Adjunct Professor teaching Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland
Baltimore County (UMBC).
John was born and raised in Catonsville MD, and earned a BS degree from
the United States Naval Academy and an Executive MBA from Loyola
University. He is a veteran having served five years in the US Marine
Corps.

NEW for 2021!
We are pleased to announce a new Social Impact track will be added to the CBIC in Spring 2021 thanks to Fifth Tribe. Students are encouraged to enter ideas in either the Technology and Innovation track or the Social Impact track. Cash prizes up to $5,000 will be available to winners in both tracks!
Who Should Participate?
Any UMBC student (full or part-time, graduate or undergraduate) with a dream of launching their own business soon.
Why Participate?
The CIBC will give you real world experience. You'll be paired with a business mentor and you'll get helpful feedback and guidance. You'll also get connected to the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Entrepreneurs Student Org. PitchDay and Updates
Good evening members,
A huge shoutout and thank you for everyone that came out to UMBC PitchDay three weeks ago. We have not forgotten about everyone that participated or attended. We ran out of time for presentations, with 4 females and 3 males pitching their big ideas.
Here is a list of everyone that presented, along with a brief description of the idea for anyone interested in getting in contact with the pitchers:
We apologize if the pitch summary does not wholly capture your idea. We are basing this off of memory for an event three weeks prior.
A huge congratulations to the following:
1. Kai Morton
2. Alina Momin
3. Emilien Tchuosi
on being voted the top three pitchers during UMBC PitchDay. We will be providing free merch. to these students when campus opens next semester. All students that attended will also receive a free item next semester.
We hope everyone is taking the situation around us seriously, practicing good social distancing, staying safe and keeping others safe.
At this time, all in-person entrepreneurial student org. related events, workshops and meetings have been canceled. We will spend this upcoming week reevaluating our goals for the semester.
For the time being, we will be fully transitioning any resources we can provide online and communicate via our Slack and myUMBC group. It is vital students join the Slack workspace to continue to receive important resources for their entrepreneurial endeavors.

As Entrepreneurs Student Org. expands, we're partnering with local corporations, small businesses and startups to recruit our immensely deep pool of talent. For students looking for internship opportunity, research experience, or being hired by local companies, we have great news for you.
Send your resume to
entrepreneurs@umbc.edu with the subject line "Opt in" to be opted into the program. When our sponsors seek talent around UMBC, your names and resumes will be shown first. Soon to be graduating students should also opt-in for new opportunity post-graduation.
That said, please check your emails regularly for opportunity from our sponsors. We'd love to develop a good relationship with them to help all of our members in the future.
Every member, regardless of major is encouraged to apply. Startups are looking to hire all majors with entrepreneurial minds, because they know we are the ambitious and motivated students.
