Students admitted to the program will work as teaching fellows (TFs) and peer mentors. They will also network with UC Berkeley data science students, attend special events, and be mentored by faculty. The DSS program welcomes undergraduate scholars from multiple disciplines, including the social sciences, looking at all aspects of data and its impact on society.</span></p><p><strong><span>Responsibilities:</span><span> </span></strong></p><ul><li><span>Scholars will work as TFs and peer mentors for undergraduate students in IS296 Foundations of Data Science. The class meets Mo/We 1-2:15 pm. The cohort of DSS scholars will meet as a group with the IS296 instructor. Scholars will be paid $15/hour for specific TF tasks, for 5-10 hours per week in Fall 2022.</span></li><li><span>Social science DSS scholars will attend at least two CS3 events in Fall 2022 and/or participate in research initiatives with social science faculty.     <div class="html-content"><h2><strong>Currently accepting internship applications for Fall 2023 in D.C. and Timonium offices. </strong></h2><h4><strong><a href="https://ruppersberger.house.gov/services/internships" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">APPLY HERE </a></strong></h4><p>In both offices, paid and unpaid internships run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters for college students. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.</p><p><u><strong>Please note p<span><span><span><span>aid internships are only available for applicants from Maryland’s Second Congressional District. All other applicants will be considered for an unpaid position. Paid interns will be </span></span></span></span><span><span>compensated at $18/hour for up to 20 hours weekly.</span></span></strong></u></p><p>In Washington, interns' responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.</p><p>In my Maryland office, interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. Tripp.</a> Dr. Tripp is Vilas Research Professor of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Tripp's research has focused on gender/women and politics, women's movements in Africa, transnational feminism, African politics (with particular reference to Uganda and Tanzania), autocracies in Africa, and on the informal economy in Africa.
