Social Science Research in Government, Business,
& Non-Profit Careers: An Alumni Panel
Research is about solving real world problems. The skills you learn while writing a research paper or taking a research methods course are valued in careers in government, business, and the non-profit industry. Join us to learn how UMBC alumni are using social science research to support government and business clients. The panel will be moderated by CS3's Associate Director,
Dr. Felipe Filomeno, and will be followed by networking and refreshments.
Panelists:
- Delta Merner, PhD (GES '14) Lead Scientist, Science Hub for Climate Litigation at the Union of Concerned Scientists
- Brent Gibbons, PhD, (PUBL '13) Health Policy Researcher in the Health Economics Program at RTI International
- Brittany Gay, PhD (PSYC '21) Associate Director of Implementation Science at the Research-to-Policy Collaboration (RPC)
A 5th anniversary celebration event organized by the Center for Social Science Scholarship.

Board of Regents, the system's governing body?

description of the Student Regent position and consider applying. Please also pass the information along to friends who may be interested. The Student Regent will serve from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026, including as the voting Student Regent in 2025-2026. All applicants should be planning to graduate in spring 2026 or later.
The application deadline is Friday, November 3 at 5 p.m.

Learn more about charting your career path and finding your place in the law!
Scott Whittier has been a lawyer for 30 years (and he teaches in UMBC's Department of Information Systems). He is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, and has practiced law in a variety of contexts: at a big D.C. law firm, in-house at a large corporation and now at the World Wildlife Fund, and he even was a college professor for a couple of years. He will have a conversation with us, hearing your thoughts and questions about law school, your legal career, etc., and sharing ideas about charting your career path and finding your place in the law.

Meet Roberto Zurbano Torres and learn about his life and legacy in Cuba and beyond through a film and discussion with him.

Diva Moreira is a Brazilian political scientist and activist on social issues primarily concerning race, feminism, and the working class since the 1960's. She founded Casa Dandara, a cultural center promoting black self-esteem and leadership, for which she was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship.
