Learn valuable skills and make strong connections
The Democracy Summer project seeks to bring about political change in America by training and deploying the next generation of Democratic organizers and leaders to win elections at every level. This one-of-a-kind Democratic Fellowship-founded by Congressman Jamie Raskin but now undertaken across the country-teaches high school and college students state-of-the-art tactics in voter registration and political organizing, the dynamic history of political and social change in our country, and essential lessons for political leadership.
This six-week program will take place from Monday, June 26, 2023 - Monday, August 7, 2023. Fellows will commit to participating in approximately 4 hours a week of virtual seminars, discussions and workshops, and an additional 10-12 hours a week of in-person organizing with Jamie Raskin for Congress.

The UMBC Department of Education Research Seminar series continues with a presentation by Francis M. Hult. He will discuss his work, which is grounded in an ecology of languages orientation and the ethnographic, discourse analytic methodology of nexus analysis. Drawing upon his recent studies of intergovernmental and higher education language policies, he examines how geopolitical forces intersect with policy and practice on local and (inter)national scales.
All members of the department, partners/collaborators, and students/faculty from other departments are invited to attend.

The Department of Geography & Environmental Systems is hosting a set of climate change talks, or "teach-ins," which are open to the general student body.
UMBC faculty will be giving open talks on a range of climate change issues from Tuesday March 28th through Thursday March 30th. Come learn more about the science behind climate change and its impacts, as well as the solutions and strategies being developed to address climate change challenges. See below for more information.
