The 2026 program expects to provide fellowships of $200,000 to 30 exceptional scholars, journalists, and public intellectuals. The funding is for a period of either one or two years, with the anticipated result being a book or major study.</li></ul><ul><li>The 2026 call for applications is on the theme of political polarization in the United States. The Corporation anticipates that the work of the Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program will explore the many ways political polarization in the United States manifests itself in society and suggest ways that it may be mitigated. Studies of polarization in other countries will be welcomed providing they offer lessons that can be applied to the United States. Projects based in disciplines across the humanities and social sciences are welcomed.</li></ul><ul><li>UMBC may nominate two scholars for the competition: one tenured and one senior untenured (i.e. teaching professors and professors of the practice). Candidates must have a Ph.D. or hold a terminal degree in their field. Untenured candidates will need to become PI Eligible through the exception process, which requires a letter from the Dean or ADR explaining that the faculty has undertaken significant research during their appointment at UMBC.</li></ul><ul><li>Andrew Carnegie Fellowships are open only to citizens or permanent residents of the United States.</li></ul><ul><li>Previous UMBC nominees who applied for the theme of political polarization are not eligible to apply again.</li></ul><p>Please keep in mind that Carnegie seeks projects that will be written to communicate with a broad audience. Fellowships will be for either 12 or 24 months and must begin on the first of the month between July and September of 2026, and no later than September 1, 2026.</p><p>Note: The Carnegie program allows flexibility in how you manage your time commitment. You may opt for a regular fellowship leave or decide to teach part-time during the semester while working full-time on your project during the summer. </p><p>2) Curriculum vitae</p><p>3) Estimate of budgetary requirement for a one- or two-year project. Funds may support:</p><ul><li>Salary and fringe benefits</li><li>Project-related travel (research, conferences)</li><li>Research assistants (hourly or stipend)</li><li>Other project needs (i.e., data collection, surveys, transcription, project supplies and a consultant or contractual service)</li></ul><p>The Dean's Office will convene a panel to review the applications and select one or two scholars to recommend to the President as UMBC's nominee(s) by October 22nd. <Title>Upcoming Deadlines for Dresher Center Fellowships</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Applications for two of our internal fellowships are now live on our website!</div><div><br></div><div><ul><li><span><a href="https://dreshercenter.umbc.edu/fellowships/residential-faculty/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Fall 2026 Residential Faculty Fellowships</span></a></span> are available to full-time UMBC tenured or tenure-track faculty who are pursuing humanities research. Fellows reside at least two days per week in the Dresher Center and receive up to two course releases from teaching in order to work on significant humanities research projects or the training necessary to embark on such projects. Residential fellows also participate in a range of Dresher Center programs and activities. <strong>Fellows have the use of an office in the Dresher Center, student research assistance, as well as access to the Center’s administrative and research development services.</strong></li><li><a href="https://dreshercenter.umbc.edu/fellowships/graduate-student/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Spring 2026 Graduate Student Fellowships</a> are available to UMBC graduate students (M.A., M.F.A., M.P.S., M.S., and Ph.D.) working on humanities-related research projects that will culminate in a dissertation, master’s thesis, or capstone project. One fellowship is awarded per semester. Fellows participate in Dresher Center programs, such as “CURRENTS: Humanities Work Now,” and attend the Humanities Forum and other activities. <strong>Fellows will receive up to $3,000 ($1,500 can serve as a stipend while the other $1,500 should be used for research travel, materials, or other directly-related research expenses.)</strong></li></ul><div><strong>Please share widely with your networks. <Title>Call for Applications: Make Your Research Come Alive (myRCA), A New UMBC Faculty Collaboratory</Title>

    <p>Applications are now open for 
    "Make Your Research Come Alive" (myRCA), a new faculty collaboratory 
    designed for faculty who are committed to advancing and amplifying the 
    visibility, reach, impact, and funding potential of their research, 
    scholarship, and creative activity.</p>
    <p>This 7-month program will bring together a cross-disciplinary cohort of UMBC faculty to:</p>
    <ul><li>Develop skills in research impact storytelling, visualization, and advocacy to reach stakeholders and the public </li><li>Create compelling pitches and broader impact narratives tailored to foundations, corporations, and donors</li><li>Share best practices and learn from each other in a supportive, cross-disciplinary cohort model</li></ul>
    The program will run from November 2025 through May 2026 and will 
    include: a kickoff meeting; twice-monthly, 60 to 90-minute sessions for 
    hands-on workshops, trainings, consultations, and events; a mini-retreat
     in January; and a final showcase in May.<br><p>Participants must be PI eligible at UMBC. Up to $500 in research funds will be awarded per participant.</p>

    apply for a $500 scholarship to support storytelling research and 
    praxis. The deadline to submit for the 2025-2026 academic year is Friday, October 17th; scholarship
     recipients will be contacted if further information about their project
     is requested and final scholarship decisions will be made by November 
    15th.</div><div><br></div><div>The Public Stories Lab engages and supports a broad variety of public
     storytelling research and praxis. We encourage applications from 
    students across UMBC colleges (COEIT, CNMS, CAHSS, Social Work, Erickson
     School) and campuses (UMBC Catonsville, Shady Grove). Projects might 
    include digital storytelling, podcasting, story mapping, oral histories,
     immersive storytelling, public storytelling performances, oral storytelling traditions, visual storytelling (animation, comics, zines), data stories, and more! </div><div><br></div><div>Scholarship
     recipients will be expected to attend one mentoring session with PSL 
    mentors and other scholarship recipients and share their storytelling 
    project (finished or in progress) at the PSL Storytelling Mini-Fest at 
    the end of the Spring 2026 semester. The Public Stories
     Lab (PSL) is a collaborative and innovative hub for faculty, students,
