Office/Clerical Assistant

**Federal Work Study Student Position**

Pay Range: $16.00-16.50/hr.

Location: On Campus (900 Walker Ave.)

Flexible Hours

Part-time, 10 hours per week

One (1) opening for general office/clerical assistant for the Department of Emergency and Disaster Health Services and PACE. 

Responsibilities

  • Answering phones
  • Greeting visitors and students to the department
  • Running errands for the department
  • Assist in keeping website and department announcement displays up to date
  • Data entry & compiling packets for the continuing education section
  • Scan, photocopy, fax, and/or email documents for digitization project
  • Work to assist faculty or staff on special projects

Required Qualifications

  • Good phone presentation with clear speaking voice
  • Ability to multitask
  • Available for blocks of time during work week
  • Punctual and Dependable
  • Detail Oriented
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and ask questions for clarification
  • Good computer skills including, attention to detail (spelling, grammar, formatting).
  • Knowledge of following software programs: Word, Excel, and e-mail
  • Willingness to learn aspects of the program so to enhance the caller’s experience, answer basic information questions and/or direct them to the correct person within the department

Preferred/Additional Qualifications 

  • Website experience (Word Press)
  • Prior office work experience

Two (2) opening as Simulation Laboratory Assistant for the Department of Emergency and Disaster Health Systems (EDHS).

Responsibilities in EDHS clinical lab

  • Assist in maintaining and cleaning equipment.
  • Assist in lab equipment inventory organization.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness/ organization in the lab space.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • No specific lab skills are required. The person chosen will be trained in all aspects of the work
  • A general understanding of lab equipment safety is required
  • Good organizational skills
  • Dependable & responsible
  • Able to communicate well with people
  • Must be able to work independently when given a task

Mini Job Fairs

The Department of Emergency Health Services will be holding mini job fair Meet & Greets on Thursdays from 1:00pm - 3:00pm starting March 2nd through April 27th. Located in the 3rd floor lobby of Sherman Hall, A wing.

Each week will feature up to three agencies looking to hire. This includes fire & EMS departments as well as critical care ambulance and air medical services. Check back each week to meet new agencies!

Opportunities and information are available for students in Public Health, Biology, Pre-Med or Pre-PA, Nursing, or other health-related fields, but all UMBC students are welcome to come to meet the recruiters.
