REMINDER: Women of Color Reception
For self-identified women of color in the UMBC community!
Join Campus Life's Mosaic and the Women's Center for the Women of Color Reception TODAY at 4pm in the Skylight Room!
We're celebrating a new school year at UMBC, and we want to bring together UMBC's women of color students, staff, and faculty to snack, share, and network among one another! If you identify as a woman of color, you are invited to help build a strong foundation for the coming school year.
This year, we are honored to host two keynote speakers:
Candace Dodson-Reed, '96, Chief of Staff in the President's Office at UMBC
Yoo-Jin Kang, '15, Coordinator for Alcohol and Other Drugs in American University's Health Promotion & Advocacy Center.
Candace and Yoo-Jin will speak on the theme of women of color "Telling Our Stories." This year, we are inspired by the recent revival of the Telling Our Stories project, and hope to continue encouraging women of color to speak truth to power through their own unique experiences and perspectives.

Newly Opened All-Gender Restrooms!
Four new AGRs open across campus
Over the past month, four All-Gender Restrooms have opened. These locations can be found in the following:
- ITE 1st floor, adjacent to the elevator and Image Research Center
- Fine Arts 1st floor, adjacent to the CADVC
- PAHB 1st floor, adjacent to the lower level recital hall
- Library 1st floor, in the RLC
Thanks to the hard work of the All-Gender Restroom Steering Committee and members of the LGBTQ+ community for making this happen!

Interested in forming a GSO this year?
Register by October 4th!
Are you interested in forming a Graduate Student Organization (GSO) this year? If so, please fill out the GSA’s online registration form by October 4, 2019 and this will ensure that your organization will be eligible for GSA funding this year.
Due to GSA’s senate restructure, GSO representatives will no longer be required to attend monthly GSA Senate meetings. GSOs are only required to submit two points of contact who will be added to our GSO email list so we can more easily communicate with you throughout the year. The structure of the group's leadership can be left up the GSO as well. Please note that while GSOs no longer need to attend our monthly GSA Senate meetings, we welcome any GSO member to attend; you can find the list of Senate meeting dates
here.
After registering, GSOs can also begin applying for event funding by filling out an
Allocation Request Form. All Allocation request forms will be reviewed monthly by the Grants Review Panel and you will receive communication from the GSA Community Liaison regarding the status of your request as well as instructions for reimbursement.
This year, the GSA Senators representing the 3 different colleges (COEIT, CAHSS and CNMS) as well as the Non-Academic GSOs will be hosting town halls aimed at their college or group. Once we have set those dates, we will be in touch so you may spread the word to your peers and departments.
Once all GSOs are registered, we will also offer training sessions to review event planning and reimbursement procedures, more information on those coming soon.

Campus Life's Diversity and Inclusion Spaces Fall Hours
Welcome back to a new year and our new Fall Hours!
Fall semester is soon approaching! We hope you had an incredible summer! We can not believe that we are at the beginning of another academic year! We are quite excited to see all the new and returning faces on campus!
The Mosaic is now open after our summer renovation. Please note that
Summer Session Hours are still in effect until tomorrow, Tuesday, August 27, 2019. We will start our new Fall Hours, on
Wednesday, August 28, 2019 and will end on Friday, December 20, 2019.
We encourage you all to check out our Welcome Week Events:
Our Fall hours are as follows:
Campus Life's Mosaic:
Monday: 9:30a.m. - 5:00p.m.
Tuesday - Thursday: 9:30a.m. - 6:00p.m.
Friday: 9:30a.m. - 5:00p.m.
Weekends: Closed
Campus Life's Interfaith Center (IFC):
Sunday - Saturday (7 Days a Week): 7a.m. - 11p.m.
Campus Life's Queer Student Lounge (QSL):
Monday - Friday: 7a.m. - 11p.m.
Weekends: Closed
Our Diversity and Inclusion lounge spaces will to be available to students, staff, faculty and their visitors on a "first come, first seated" basis. Free coffee, tea, cold beverages and periodic snacks will be available during this time. We're trying to be more sustainable! If possible, please bring your own travel mug or cup with you.

The Mosaic will close early periodically throughout the semester to accommodate programming and workshop trainings. Please stay tuned to myUMBC for any updates.

For 21-year-old college student Ben Rolnick, who suffers from severe social anxiety, meeting new people and facilitating conversation present a challenge -- but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t think they’re worth it. Become a Student Ambassador for Retriever Essentials

Timeline: Sept 1, 2019 – Sept 1, 2020*
The Retriever Essentials team is proud to announce that we will be forming a Student Leadership Board for the 2019-2020 school year! Our goal is to engage passionate student leaders in a sustainable and impactful way.
The main role of the Student Ambassador position is to create and sustain connections
between Retriever Essentials and the broader student body and campus community.
The Retriever Essentials Student Leadership Board contributes to the vision of
Retriever Essentials by promoting Retriever Essentials events, engaging the
UMBC community, and fulfilling essential pantry-operation tasks including
collecting and inventorying donations, and packing and delivering food bags.
Ambassadors may also assist with the design and facilitation of workshops
addressing the stigma of food insecurity, community dinners, food drives, and
other engaging outreach events. This means that it is essential for all
Ambassadors to demonstrate strong leadership skills, to be team-oriented, and have willingness to contribute to the vision of the Retriever Essentials Advisory
Board.
