Facts about open access:

Open access is a social good, enabling innovation via the open flow of information, and providing equitable access to knowledge regardless of income level.

Open access is fair to taxpayers. They support research with their tax dollars and shouldn’t have to pay again to access it.

Open access can save UMBC journal subscription dollars, making those funds available for other uses.

Many high-quality peer-reviewed journals are open access and many UMBC faculty publish in them.

The UMBC Faculty Senate has passed an Open Access Resolution recommending that UMBC faculty seek venues for making their works open access.

Open Access Textbooks, or Open Educational Resources, level the playing field for students who can’t afford high-priced textbooks.
