This session will provide tips on using VoiceThread to share your URCAD presentation.  With Voicethread students can create, share, and comment on images, PowerPoint presentations, videos, audio files, documents, and PDFs, using microphone, webcam, text, phone, and audio-file upload. We’ll review how to create a Voicethread for your URCAD presentation, and how to edit and share your presentation. Staff from the DoIT (Dept. of Information Technology) will be available to answer your questions.

Registration is open for the Multicultural Leadership Experience, a collaborative effort between Campus Life and the Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging (i3b), to be virtually held during the Spring 2021 semester. The Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE) will:
  • Engage up to 20 undergraduate students in a leadership learning cohort;
  • Enhance participants' leader identity and leadership capacity;
  • And increase participants awareness of personal abilities and identity development through authenticity, self-reflection, the role they play in developing relationships, and capitalizing on difference

Based on the belief that leadership is learned through experience, education, and reflection-- MLE will focus on leadership development through a multicultural lens, create a dynamic virtual learning environment, and invite UMBC students to learn with and from UMBC faculty, staff, and alumni. Registration is due Monday, February 1st, 2021 at 11:59pm. To register, visit: tinyurl.com/mle2021

Women's Center Spring 2021 Hours of Operation:
The Women's Center continues to provide support and services virtually Monday through Friday throughout the spring 2021 semester. We encourage campus community members to contact us through email at womenscenter@umbc.edu or via phone at 410-455-2714. Staff will generally be most available between the hours of 10am-4pm. We appreciate your patience in our response to your email or returning your phone call.

The Women's Center lounge space will remain closed until further notice. Just think, our new couches are going to feel even more comfy once we get to use them together again! 

The Women's Center lactation room is available by reservation only. For details on how to make a reservation please visit this post about Spring 2021 reservations. 

Individualized Support Meetings:
Women's Center professional staff are available for individual meetings and support which we can provide via phone or video chat; to schedule an appointment, email womenscenter@umbc.edu or call 410-455-2714. If you are already working with a specific staff member and need to set up additional meetings, feel free to reach out to the staff member you have been working with directly (via email or even g-chat!).

Women's Center Spring 2021 Program/Events:
The Women's Center is offering a range of programming and events virtually throughout the spring semester. Discussion-based groups (Spectrum, We Believe You, and Women of Color Collective) will be meeting virtually on a bi-weekly basis. The Brave Space Forum series and programming for Returning Women Students/Adult Learners will be offered on a monthly basis.

Dr. Chris Rakes, is a guest editor for a special issue of Education Sciences about Technology in Mathematics Education. 


This upcoming Special Issue of Education Sciences aims to present an overview of the latest research on how technology can be used to promote and measure conceptual understanding. Papers on (but not limited to) the following themes are of interest: 
  • Laying the foundation for the effective use of technology through theoretical and conceptual frameworks; 
  • Using technology to support culturally relevant pedagogy; 
  • Portraying mathematics phenomena through nonlinguistic representations; 
  • Supporting special populations in mathematics; 
  • Building mathematics connections; 
  • Engaging students through cooperative and collaborative learning; 
  • Strengthening meta-cognition in mathematics; 
  • Promoting mathematical thinking and reasoning; 
  • Teaching mathematics through inquiry, discovery, experimentation, and simulation;
  • Connecting technology to curriculum; 
  • Assessing student outcomes of technology in mathematics education.

Facilities Management and the Office of Accessibility and Disability Services are hosting a review of recent, current and potential construction projects that enhance accessibility, improve the physical environment of UMBC, and benefit the entire community while supporting accessibility for people with disabilities. 

Come see the progress made during remote work, new projects on the horizon, and share ideas to inform the proposal process for UMBC's continued participation with the AccessMD Program.  We do provide updates beyond the scope of the program as well.
